Unknown Systems-What''s the use?
If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Go to arbiter.de for a set of maps. They cover everything. Welcome to TLR

<<<The use is its easier to get nomad weapons in the bottom one>>>
Not necessarily. A few weeks ago I got 3 nomad cannons and a nomad blaster from some nomads around the jump hole in omicron alpha, whilst fighting off the odd outcast and trying to scavenge the wrecks .
In fact, I thought i'd just picked up shield bats and nanos until I got back to Freeport 10!

I think the point of the Unknown systems is just to be something fascinating to discover. You've got to admit, they're strange places. I've been caught off guard once in a while just looking at the scenery. And then there's the fact that Nomads are there -- don't you remember the first time you found them (providing you weren't told, of course, then it ruins the surprise), how shocked you were to see Nomads cruising around as though they owned the place? I was still a pretty newbie pilot when I found the jump holes, and was pretty nervous about going near them, let alone through them. They're just something interesting to discover. And they add to the story of the Outcasts, who view them as something approaching gods it seems. Like the Hispania -- it doesn't do anything other than make you think 'ah, that's interesting -- cool' when you find it, and it adds to the story.

There are loads of "ah, that's interesting" things in Freelancer if you're prepared to look. There are many people in various bars who can tell you about stuff that happened before the time when the game's set. Usually you stumble upon something completely by chance - like these unknown systems - and then think, "Hmm, what's this about?" Now in that case there, there's no back story, but in many other similar cases there's plenty of info if you're interested.
Just don't mention the Dallas Incident to me

A particular favourite rumour of mine I believe I heard on Detroit Munitions base, where a guy suggested that in 10 years time they could be installing portable Jump Gate generators on ships... now THAT would be handy .

Jump Gate generators onboard ships would really be cool, I agree.
Maybe the unknown systems are there as a marker for the rest of the star systems around Sirius that are there to be explored. That's how the nomads were discovered in the first place, a Rheinland expedition into unknown systems. Perhaps in a sequel or expansion pack it could be set later on from the orginal, with more systems having been explored. Cause remember, exploring's half the fun in Freelancer!
Of all the systems, in all the galaxy, you had to fly into mine.

The Dallas Incident of 500 AS is the reason why the Texas system is used mainly as a prison system, and also why there are the Dark Matter clouds on the west side of the system. Ageira were conducting a Jump Gate experiment with some new technology, but (surprise, surprise) it went wrong, and half the system was devastated in the cataclysmic explosion. The California Jump hole was formed as a direct result, with the radiation giving rise to the Grande and Pequena Negra clouds

The unknown systems are almost the ultimate test of survival in freelancer. (Next to getting throught the border worlds with everyone hostile to you of course). Its just a challenge to fight nomads there. Just be glad they don't have cruise disruptors...

sounds like some1 needs to make an expansion pack as a mod... add a new "sector" or two, besides sirius, 40 or fifty new ships, new guns, new planets... meh i would do it but i really cant program to save my life. all i know is html 4... tried javascript, didnt make sense (all those random parenthesis on blank lines... *shiver*)
unknown systems RULE! ever fly out all the way to that sun? heh its WAY off the map and i flew there, took 10 minutes, maybe 15. Its cool if u want to see the center of a sun, cuz the corona does not hurt

Orillion: So trent, will you help us with the mission?
Trent: Sure, as long as I'm not shot at, knocked out, held at gunpoint, electrocuted, skewered alive by giant alien shapeshifters, have to dive out windows, or fight off spindly nomad incubi.
