8 sleeper ships??

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Hey Puke, guess you haven't had an American Beer in awhile. Fact is there's been a reawakening in the beer industry here, Thank God. Now were not stuck with the World Famous Budweiser gag water. There are many, many, micro-brews to choose from, many of which can compete with the best the world has to offer.

Moosejaw? At least come up with something decent . I don't want these Americans to think that Canada's just an underdeveloped country full of crazy people who say 'eh' in every sentence.

Oops...too late .

And I don't think Quebec and Ontario would ever agree to share a sleeper ship. Never mind the rest of the provinces.

For those (ignorant {if appicable}) Americans, provinces are just better versions of states .

I've looked everywhere I thought it logical for it to be located, and have turned up nothing. Perhaps I looked over it or missed something, but I would really appreciate if you could give me the URL. I've seen the screenshots from it, and I would really like to get a look at it in action. The nomad ships look a thousand times better in the video than they are protrayed in the game. Thanks.

I'll probably be modded for this but here

the bloke in the bar on the outcast homeworld talks about the history of the flotilla that left pluto, he talks about the sabotage on the hispania and the fact that there were 3 more ships that were "destroyed before they could activate their star drives". this may be a bit they left in the game by accident??

Post Sun Mar 07, 2004 11:56 am

wait just a freeking minute, if the Liberty was launched 2 years early, then howcome in the intro it zooms in on the Liberty? And i know its the liberty because it says Liberty on it. This makes more evedance there were more than 8 sleeper ships. mabye there were 12

Orillion: So trent, will you help us with the mission?

Trent: Sure, as long as I'm not shot at, knocked out, held at gunpoint, electrocuted, skewered alive by giant alien shapeshifters, have to dive out windows, or fight off spindly nomad incubi.

I was here a long time ago, under a user name I can't for the life of me remember (hence, new user name ). There was an exact-same thread then too. I'll say now what I said then. In reality, would you listen to a bar tender so blindly, even if all the evidence surrounding you pointed to the contrary? No. Everything other than that rumour points to there being five sleeper ships. The introduction (which wouldn't be distored by time ; A) this isn't actually real, it was used to tell you the story, telling you the wrong story would serve no purpose), the fact there are only four Houses + the remnants and various factions of the fifth, the fact that no-one else in their universe seems to have any clue...
I put it down to one of two things. First, the developers made a mistake, or were going to have eight ships originally, but changed their minds and forgot to change the rumour. Second, maybe they left the rumour in there either to get people talking, or perhaps to open up room for a sequel? I tend to go with the former.

Something else to do with the different version of the story... if you were to go purely by what was released in the retail version of Freelancers, wouldn't you have to assume that the Coalition and the Sol System *weren't* destroyed by the Nomads?

Post Sun Mar 07, 2004 8:30 pm

I do. If they haven't decided to mention such a rather significant event, I think we can safely assume they decided not to go with that whole story -- because it was a rather significant event, and if our own solar system was destroyed by powerful aliens, they'd probably mention it just once.
They probably stopped that sort of story dead in its tracks so that when you first saw the Nomads, it was a surprise. If you already knew that aliens fitted into the plot somehow, you would suspect right from the beginning of the strange goings on. I know I didn't suspect any aliens being involved till I heard of them, so I think the twist works.

Besides, if an author changes his/her mind regarding a certain element of the story, you don't then read the final version assuming the original also applies. You read it how it is now.

@Bounty_Hunter_Jackson -
I agree totally! Why would you believe a bartender on a planet that sells narcotic substances?

Dude, his genetic structure is made up of Cardamine...

But in the intro, have you ever noticed that only 5 sleeper ships escape from the launch bay? So it's either that the three were destroyed in the bay, or they didn't exist at all. Maybe there were just plans to launch 8, and they weren't carried out or something. Maybe they got launched in a different direction. Maybe what happened to them is the basis of FL2...

Post Mon Mar 08, 2004 1:06 pm

Yeah, it could be that they left the rumour in there to open up possibilities for FL2. Also, they could have left the Nomads-destroying-Sol part out in case they ever wanted to revisit Sol in a sequel. But till they say that, I tend to take things as they are. And I don't listen to rumours in real life
