Regular questions answered. New Questions Welcome !

Okay, I've decided to answer some common questions asked in the Freelancer Discussion Forum. If you spot something wrong, please point it out. Here we go .....

1: Best Ship .....
2: After the storyline .....
3: Location, Location, Location
4: Freelancer Expansion/ Petitions
5: Omicron Alpha Unknown Sun
6: Can I get to ........ ?

****************************************************
(Question 1) ------ "What is the Best Ship ?"
****************************************************

Since this is an objective review, I can only give you the facts as they are. Now, most people agree the best ship is one of the three top VHF Fighters. Here I will list the stats of each ship and let you decide for yourself.

Eagle ---- Pros: Fast Turning/Dodging Speed
Cons: Weak Armor, Medium Firepower

Sabre ----- Pros: High Firepower (Due to 360 Degree turret on top)
Cons: Medium Armor, Medium Turning Speed

Titan ------ Pros: High Armor (2000 Extra Shield Power)
Cons: Medium Firepower, Slow Turning Speed

Okay, people who support the Eagle say that it can beat the Titan by dodging it's shots and staying behind it, wearing it down over time. However, it's dodging speed IS lowered considerably when fighting in asteroid fields, but dodging is great in open space combat, and if it can get and stay behind a Titan , it will win.

Titan Supporters say that the Eagle can be taken down easily with a head-on weapons run, which is how most ships approach combat. Due to a lack of a back firing set of turrets however, means that if a Titan dosen't destroy it's target in the head-on run, giving time for the Eagle to get behind the ship, means the Titan is finished unless covered by another ship.

There have been no major arguments for the Sabre, as most people seem to like either of the Extremes (Titan or Eagle). Onto the next question .......

***********************************************************************************************
Question 2 : "Where can I find (Orillion/Juni/King etc) after Orillion asks me to be their Liberty Agent ?"
************************************************************************************************

Two words, YOU CAN'T

The storyline ends after the Big Nomad Homeword Battle, and it has been left at that, which means the game want's you to assume Juni/King/Orillion etc go on with their normal lives (Whatever normal is for them....). Go around Siris, explore, then move on to Multiplayer. Next question......

***********************************************************************************************
Question 3: " Where can I find Weapon/Shield (X) ? "
***********************************************************************************************

There is a list of all weapons/shield locations etc In the spoilers forum, at the top of the page. I'll leave you to find it. Onto question four ........

***********************************************************************************************
Question 4: " Is there going to be any Expansion/s for Freelancer ? "
OR " Let's start a petition for a Freelancer Expansion .. "
***********************************************************************************************

There is not going to be any Freelancer Expansion. Sorry, but that's the plain truth. Online Petitions won't help either, what we really need is more people to buy the game, and that's unlikely unless a miracle happens. Microsoft ain't goning to pay attention to pleas (When have they ?) for an expansion either, so don't try that. Just play the game and be satisfied with current mods.
Next we go onto .....

***********************************************************************************************
Question 5 : " The Sun in the Omicrom Alpha Unknown System dosen't kill me, why ?"
***********************************************************************************************

This is a glitch which was left in the game when Microsoft forced the game out early. No patches for that yet ......

************************************************************************************************
Question 6: " Can I get back to the (Dyson Sphere, Tohoku, Nomad Homeworld, Alaska etc) ?"
************************************************************************************************

I hate to say it. But no. You can't get back to the Dyson Shpere, Alaska or Tohoku AFTER the storyline. Unless you're using mods that is ....

***********************************************************************************************************************************************

These are just the questions that I thought of off the top of my head. If you have a question, post is here and I will try to answer it to the best of my ability..

Someone needs to write a definative ship stats guide, with EVERY stat included (like the seldom quoted turn rates, max shield size etc), and a weapons/equipment guide giving all their stats and locations.

I'd do it, but am just too lazy................

or you could just click on "all spoilers", and then click on the part that says "all ships/stats"...

What ship is better? Hammerhead or Centurion? I've read that the Hammerhead is better, but according to the LR database the Centurion is better.

Post Mon Jan 26, 2004 8:07 pm

Okay ,Black_Leader,
HammerHead vs Centurion ...
Here are the stats :

Hammerhead

Class: VHF
Gun/Turret Mounts : 6/1
Armor: 7900
Cargo: 70
Max Nanobots/Batteries: 49/49
Max Weapon Class: 9

And the .......

Centurion

Class: Heavy Fighter
Gun/Turrets: 6/0
Armor: 9200
Cargo: 45
Max Nanobots/Batteries: 55/55
Max Weapon Class: 9

Now, these ships are quite similar in stats, but are different enough to warrant different playing styles.

The Hammerhead is a VHF, so it has a bigger cargo compartment. This would be a quite good ship if you were doing some trading off-side while searching for missions. However, since it is a VHF , it is slower turning than the centurion due to it's class, so you would have to watch your tailpipe. Which brings me nicely to my next point. The Hammerhead has an extra turret, which means that if someone is on your tailpipe, you can take a few shots to distract him, and then swing around and go in guns blazing. The turret would also compliment a frontal attack nicely as well , and one class-nine turret can make or break a battle. Onto the Centurion.

The Centurion is a heavy fighter, a class lower than the hammerhead, yet is is on par with it statistically. One thing to note, is that it has no turrents to defend it's tailpipe with, so if someone get's in there, you're finished. However, it has both the upper hand in Defence and Turning Speed, it is a nice ship in it's own right. This ship would be used in missions ,because of it's small cargo hold, it wouldn't be worthwile trying to trade because it would give such a small return (unless hauling diamonds , that is). If the Centurion had the suprise in a attack on a Hammerhead, it could shoot from the side, and be behind it, attacking the engines. However, you would have to be good at dodging turret shots to stay there.

The Hammerhead and Centurion are both fine ships in their own rights, but I would have to lean towards the Hammerhead as the superior ship.

Hope this helped

1) The thread doesn't work any longer
2) NO TURN RATE OR MAX SHIELD SIZE STATS WERE THERE ANYWAY (HENCE MY SUGGESTION OF A FULLY COMPLETE TABLE SPECIFICALLY QUOTING THESE ATTRIBUTES)

Next time you reply to a comment grison21372, read the that comment fully, and also make sure you you fully check out the link you're giving!

I know HammerHead is little more agil from Egale.

but I do not think that Centurian since its HF only is more agil from Eagle or HammerHead? I think Centurian moves heavily like titan.

I say that from Experiance I have did many many missions in the omicrons including missions from fp9 where I face corsiars Centurian and Titan, its true I found killing Centurian harder from killing titan but its still alot Easier from killing GMG Eagles (omicron Beta).

I wont talk about missions against HammerHead since the BH weapens realy sux.

The only question I can see is the Hammerhead vs Centurion one
Unless you count moby's "mooooo" post as " Am I a cow ?", and I ain't answering that because the answer wouldn't be that nice

Well, from my experience, the Centurion turns faster than the Hammerhead, if piloted correctly, and the Hammerhead turns a bit slower.

Couldn't dig up any stats though , I guess it's all down to skill.

I'm going to fill in the blank in the arguments for and against the big three.

Most people think of the Sabre as being number 2 over all, as it is less heavily armoured than the Titan, and slower than the eagle, but it makes up for that by being more heavily armoured by the Eagle, and faster than the titan, not to mention packing more guns than either. let's look at it like this: each ship has a speed value, an armour value, and a firepower value, rated in three easy steps; low(1), medium (2), and high (3). these values are compared against the other ships in the "Big Three". it works out as follows

Eagle:
Speed: high (3)
Firepower: medium (2)
Armour: Low (1)

total: 6 points

Titan:
Speed: low (1)
Firepower: Medium (2)
Armour: high (3)

total: 6 points

Sabre:
Speed: medium (2)
Firepower: high (3)
Armour: medium (2)

total: 7 points

purely on the numbers, a sabre works out as the best ship, which is why I use it.

admittedly, the success or failure of a ship will depend on your ability to fly it. if you're a very skilled pilot, then agility is going to be more important to you as a survival tool than armour. if, on the other hand, you think dodging is for wimps, then the Titan is your beast. My personal philosophy is that the best defence is a strong attack. after all, destroyed ships can't shoot back.

in all, I guess the best argument is that the best ship is whichever one you think is best. I'm a staunch defender of the Sabre, but that's mostly preference (plus the fact that I think it looks damn cool).
