UK prices suck - however, my copy was free (a birthday present from my dad), but I have seen it at ridiculous prices (£34.99). I remember when games came out at £44.99 (about $65). Why are prices so different to us in the UK, can an American please explain how prices work in the USA.

UK has VAT at 17.5%

As a freelancer one encounters some strange stuff - in the the end, however, you always remain the strangest thing you are ware of.

The reason prices are higher in the UK when compared to, say, THE REST OF THE WORLD, is simple:

Because we pay 'em.

No joke. That's it.
Remember when console games were selling for £50 - £60, and there was that big 'outrage'?
At the same time, these games were selling for less than half that in Europe, the U.S. and the rest of the planet.

In the U.K., we pay more for petrol (approx. 2-3 times as much as the U.S.) and up to twice as much for consumer goods. We also pay more tax than anywhere else in Europe, cars cost up to 50% more, designer clothing costs...I won't go on.

For a very long time in this country people have been getting used to accepting this without complaining or demanding their civil right to be treated like the rest of the planet. Remember the Poll Tax riots? So we didn't have Poll Tax. Instead the government introduced Council Tax, which is higher than Poll Tax ever was.
And now we have the elderly freezing to death every winter cos they can't pay.

This is not a good country, and national pride means f*&k all.
this is why I like freelancer.
Escapism.
I'll shut up now.

explain US prices eh HA! thats a good one its easy we have 1$ 5$ 10$ 20$ 50$ and 100$ and wre working on a 100,000 one with Billy Bill Gates on it (JK) well becuase we have a larger populace the demands of price drops is high but then Bushy raises taxesalso becuase of diffrent currenices we dont use Euros or pound we use dollars which is less complicated and better colored but if ya want high prices, try and buy an imported German Luxury BMW lowest price is about 25,000 i think that would be 250,000 in pounds and 200,000 in Euro

(Think Aussie money!)

And for those of you who think Canadian money is worthless, you're wrong. Let's say an American teacher is paid $40 000 per year USD. The same teacher, doing the same job in Canada would be paid $52 000 per year. Even though Canadian money is worth less, you get more of it to restore the balance.
