Best Combo

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Best Combo

Yeah, we're all sick of best ship threads, so here's a spin on it. What's the best combo of ships/weapons? There are four types of pilotable ships in unmodded FL (light fighters, heavy fighters, very heavy fighters, and freighters). There are also three types of guns (2.0 firerate, heavy damage; 4.0, medium damage; 8.33, low damage). I won't bother with sheilds because we can all agree that more is always better. So, what's the best combo of ship/guns? I prefer very heavy fighters with all 2.0 guns, although I'm sure many of you will propose combos of combos (ie 2 2.0's with 4 4.0's). Just currious for your answers. --- RR16

Like my use of semi-colons?

You want me to elaborate? Very well, I was attempting to be amusing by implying that one of the Moderators should lock this thread as I imagine that such topics have already been exhausted. Don't take it personally though. I'm still working on my sense of humour. My family say that I don't have one. Life is hard...

So far no one's seen a need to lock this one out. --- RR16

That's true, although there have hardly been any posts in this thread. I wouldn't take it personally, I think that whenever anybody sees a topic with the word "Best" in it, their eyes glaze and they miss it. Damn those "n00bs"!

The above post is true, and by true I mean "false". It's comprised of lies, but they are entertaining lies and in the end, isn't that the real truth? The answer is "no".

I think this would have better luck in Spoiler.

On a Sabre, Titan, or Eagle (in no particular order)

Tizona del Cid
Firestalker Missile
2x DIAMONDBACKS
2x Nomad Energy Blaster
Sunslayer Torpedo

There you go. See you in space for a short period of time

atm i carry (on most chars) eagle with 2 del cid 1 cannonball 3 nomads a ripper and a sunslayer but you need a lot of cash for ammo

For LF's, 4.00 or higher refire is good- since you need to zip around a lot, it helps to have your guns ready again almost immediately in case you miss.

For HF's, 3.03 or greater

For VHF's, 2.00 or greater- since you don't wobble around as much, you can set up shots a lot easier.

For freighters, 3.03 or greater

When choosing weapons, choose the one with the best blend of refire, projectile speed, and firepower, and base all your other weapon choices off your biggest gun(i.e. your biggest gun has 700 projectile speed, everything else should have 700 projectile speed).

Missiles should be chosen depending on who/what you're fighting- if you're going into an area with a lot of agile targets(i.e. Liberty or Kusari), a faster missile with a better turn rate is best. If you're only going to be fighting VHF's(Omicrons Gamma and Alpha), you should choose the missile with the most firepower. If Nomad fighting is your intent, make sure all your missiles are of the ARMOR damaging type, not EMP.

Since all mines are pretty much equal in tracking, choose one of the higher-level mine launchers.

No reason not to mount the best countermeasures...they're only $40 a pop, IIRC.

Same with thruster...always use heavy or advanced.

Shields- don't bother working out the strengths and weaknesses- more often than not, the differences in shield points more than make up for any particular weakness in the shield type. Always mount the biggest shield available for your class.

jsut wanted to say that there is more than 2.00, 4.00, and 8.33 refire rates. for example, the nomad energy blaster (not cannon, blaster) has a refire rate of 3.33 (i think lol, anyway it's 3.something). i think that two cannons and a blaster is pretty good two of those weapons from sigma 13 that have a 8.33 rate, can't remember the name

Post Fri Dec 12, 2003 9:53 pm

there is a few weapons with a refire rate of 5.33 or something with a 5... but usually these weird fire rates arent on decent guns so they dont matter
