How do you earn money mining?

I have done mining in a few asteroid fields, but most dispensed water, scrap metal and oxygen (how scientifically you can get oxygen is beyond me - suirely it would dissipate into space). I did mine copper (can't remember where).

However, I have only found two lucrative mining areas.

Dublin System: By Graves Station, shoot the rocks, you get Gold. Deliver it Alster Shipyard.

Sigma-17: In the massive cloud by the Unknown Jump Hole there are a load of rocks, and you shoot them, you get Alien Artefacts. Take them to Planet Manhaatan. Beware: Contraband alert!!!! (But you knew that anyway)

You can either use the Titan, Eagle or Sabre because of their shield cpabaility. Or, you can use a Dromedary or Humpback or Drone if you feel safe enough to maneuvre in asteroid fields.

As a freelancer one encounters some strange stuff - in the the end, however, you always remain the strangest thing you are ware of.

Pueblo Station: "We expected them to come from the Silverton Asteroid Field, but they came from the Copperton Field and completely surprised us! The Liberty patrols were shot down like flies"

Williard Research Station: "Two more torpedoes have hit the Harmony, and our fighters are being shot down like flies!"

Hakkera Tsushinamade: "Lieutenant Ozu, we're being shot down like flies. You and Mr Trent have to make your run NOW!"

I wish Trent would say: "Flies are an intelligent animal with the shortest lifespan of any winged creature, they are very difficult to shoot down, and cannot breathe in space!"

You could mine diamonds in the von rohe belt in Omega 11 or silver and cobalt in the omega 7 walker clouds. Its takes ages to fill your cargo hold but can be quiet profitable.

You can mine Copper in the Copperton field in Colorado. Sells okay at Ft. Bush in New York.
You can also mine Silver in the Silverton field in Colorado. Sells well at Manhattan.

Shoot the Hessians in Dresden, they drop Pharmacuticals (sp?) and Niobium wich both sell good in Dresden. You figure out wich station, I forgot the name

The only mining that is genuinely profitable is by Graves Station, and selling the gold straight to graves station. If your ship is large enough to justify flying somewhere gold sells well you would be making more money by doing normal trading missions or piracy.

The only times you should mine for profit are:
When your starting out and cant afford a freighter.

You have a freighter, but cant afford cargo. (Due to dying and losing your cargo and having no spare cash, or due to bad planning)

You have a fighter, but cant afford the guns/shields to do missions. (Due to bad planning)

The thing about mining is all you need is a $500 gun/turret... thats it. Mining is a way to make the broke rich - not the rich richer.

Hmmm..... Interesting stuff. I agree about the Graves Station idea, but would probably sell it to somewhere more profitable than Graves, New London perhaps. The problem is there are so many places to mine, and it is so time consuming. You need to mine Gold and take it to Tripoli, or do the Artefact mining to make it worth your while as a profit making idea, as opposed to the get rich quick scheme.

However, since I am rich, it is just something I like doing

actually minig copper in the copperton field is best, and it sells for the most IN colorado, not NY. Also - silver in Colorado. It sells at manhat for about 600 each, which is only one short trip away. Only Xenos to watch out for as well. Takes time though

Try alien organisims in Omicron Beta. Sell them at Ruiz Base for 100 each and almost every hit is a result... Lots of money fast.
