whats the best ship

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Misunderstood statement, sorry =(.
But I didn't say anything about Sabre vs Titan.

According to the theory of evolution, I should have died a LONG time ago.

I love to fly a Falcon. Or a Patriot, but for obvious reasons I don't stay in that one for too long Especially when I want to go out to the Borderworlds.

Your performance problem is that PCI graphics card, those things are slow as molasses. If you really want to play get an AGP 4X or faster card. If the motherboard doesn't support AGP then you're screwed and you need a new computer.

I like the Eagle, it gets hit less.

@Goren, Welcome to TLR. You need to edit your posts, rather than double posting. This is a little old thread, but better resercting one than creating another your first post is a little off the wall too

So I'm hearing a lot about Daggers and Eagles and whatnot. I've seen stilettos (sp?) in use by the Rheinland/Omega corsairs. They appear to be highler-firepower Daggers - are they actually any good? Because I was looking forward to getting one in the future.

see the stiletto as the missing link between dagger and sabre

i flew also lots with the stiletto, the only prob for that fighter is that their aren't real good powerfull class 7 weaps, exc. for thus missiles then .

i destroyed a titan and a humpback in a few seconds with it... so it is a very good ship when in the right hands...

try to do this;
- begin, go inmediate as pirate and buy the dagger
- get about 200k, and go to frankfurt for the stiletto.
- go for 500k and go to malta, do their 1 or 2 missions and buy the sabre.
- after that, do 1 or 2 missions, and look what ship u liked the best (mine was the stiletto).

My PC is only a PIII 500Mhz with GeForce2MX AGP 2x 64 MB Graphics card and a 256MB of RAM... and Freelancer is in full graphics mode at 1024x768x 32 bit but goes down to 800 x 600 x 32 bit full graphics mode when in my last missions with the nomads... to much models flying around...

Best ship for me ... Saber with its forward turret armed with those GMG's Level 9 Lasers and a cannonball missile... of course the Tizona del Cid ... see how i rip their shields with this gun...

a message from firebase...

I used to use the Sabre for its forward turret, but then I realised that turret guns have faster weapon speeds - so you're less likely to hit with them while still draining power. So I switched to the Eagle and never looked back

Titan is my fav. Sabre handles better though between the two. However, I liked the hammerhead alot, seemed to get hit alot less in it. (smaller profile?)

Played 1 SP to the end in a barracuda. Nice zippy ship. This was in a mod game so it may have been irrelevant.

If you have zillions of credits to spare, you can do what I do - go in a ship suitable for the faction you are inclined to helping in that part of space. There's no particular strategic reason for this, but I just like cruising in a Hammerhead alongside the Bounty Hunters, slipping through space in a Sabre with the Outcasts...

And I'm glad that this isn't a classic Best Ship thread.

Of all the systems, in all the galaxy, you had to fly into mine.

I'm (obviously) a Bounty Hunter's Hammerhead kinda guy. Her narrow profile and high degree of manoeuvrability over all the other very heavy fighters makes her the pick of the bunch, IMO. Granted, her energy banks aren't quite as full-to-the-brim as the class-10-capable ships, but if the Sabre can't get out from in front of you, it won't be long before class-10 weapons and shields are irrelevant . Of course, other people are going to tell you otherwise -- it comes down to you. Your fighting and flying style, and your personal weapons preferences, etc, will all come together to choose the best ship for you automatically. Tis all opinion. And you can keep telling yourself that when I tear your wings off and scoop up all your pricey weapons to sell later on . Seriously, though. Some folks prefer LFs, some folks prefer tanks, some folks prefer the inbetween... and some folks like freighters, who folks like me get paid to protect once in a while.

BTW, statistically (I take aft turrets into account simply because they are useful on a fighter that moves with all the grace of a brick -- the Centurion's armour pushes it ahead of the Hammerhead though, despite it's lack of any kind of turret) the best fighters are as follows:

Titan <-- Sabre <-- Eagle <-- Centurion <-- Hammerhead <-- Falcon <-- Valkyre

Obviously, that doesn't take into account manoeuvrability. Which can't really be quantified; you have to judge for yourself. For example, some say the Eagle handles excellently, but I don't think it beats a Hammerhead. Like I said, it's opinion. You have to fly them all, get a feel for them. Starting out though, you won't have much choice in the matter. You'll get a Starflier. Although so tiny and agile you can't hit it particularly easily, by the same token its weapons are so low powered they're of minimal use. From the Starflier I suggest you move up to a Patriot as soon as you can. I won't suggest any further, as to go through the ships you can get as you progress would be an even bigger spoiler than this entire thread is already

Eagle is the most nimble. I'm afraid it's even as manuverable as Liberty Defender... That's scary. I tried to time the turn rate they both did a full 360 in about 5 secs. If there's a difference, I couldn't tell.

Sabre is potential the most devastating with forward mounting turrets, you're shooting from 7 guns.

Titan turns very slowly, but highly durable. It's reactor also allows it to fire more sustainable salvo than the other ones, even class 10 weapons. Although there's another matter about the best weapon using "very little" energy...
