To settle the Rheinland debate...
In German class I was looking in a textbook and I noticed that the German name for the River Rhine is Rhein. Therefore the german name for Rhineland would be Rheinland.

Anyone notice the Rhineland is the land lost by Germany after WW1/2. It and the Polish Corridor were taken away by the Treaty of Versailles, and until then it WAS a part of Germany... unless I got the wrong place, I think Im right....
Bein an Outcast is about doin things you wanna do: Kill, Terrorise, Murder, Destroy, Smoke Cardamine, ya know, normal stuff.....

You're right. It was WW1.
The Alsace-Lorraine (Rhineland) territory was coveted by both France and Germany.
Germany lost it after WW1, but it was recaptured in WW2; and not wanting to make another mistake with war reparations, the Allies let Germany keep most of the territories it gained during the war. Partly because the Soviets had taken Eastern Europe.
For the Coalition!!

Many of the "criminal" factions are linked to the "land" in which they live.
Crysanthamuns (spelling) are considered fortunate (Or lucky) in Japan I believe, and the Dragon is held in high regard too.
As for Corsairs their "second" port of call in the game is Bretonia, which as stated is based on what was The Britich Empire, arguably the biggest group of blood thirsty pirates to ever sail the seas, having at one point controlled a third of the world.
Xenos probably represent some anti-foriegn league, although I can't thnk of any with the possibly exception of Nazis. Bounty Hunters are obvious... I think the farmers alliance is linked to Germany somehow...
It's all so hazy...
If it wasn't for the inky blackness of the night you wouldn't appreciate the brilliance of the stars...

Actually, Bretonia is a French province although it is usually spelt Bretagne or Brittany. It is also an empire in the RPG Warhammer, whose publishers registered 'Bretonia' as a trademark and some drooling moron of a clerk granted this, along with things like 'Chivalry', 'Citadel', 'Space Fleet' ...
One day, when I'm bored and feel really malicious, I'm going to invent & patent a system for labelling things (which I'm going to call 'naming') by associating the things with combinations of about two dozen basic symbols, each of said symbols being associated with its own distinctive glyph (which I'm going to call 'letter') for ease of human consumption. In order to facilitate non-visual communication as well as streaming to media like mag tapes I'll provide a scheme to map the symbols to certain sounds (which I'm probably going to call 'phonemes') because this provides an easy means of serializing the symbols and their combinations onto low-bandwidth serial media or to transfer them over low-bandwidth serial comms channels. With a minor software upgrade (a.k.a. 'training') humans should be able to serialize/deserialize streams of symbols directly via their built-in hardware - vocal cords and the first stage of the food input pipeline should make a nice transmitter, and the ear already is a pretty good receiver. Visual representations (via glyphs) could be input via the optical recognition system, even in parallel with the aural channel, but it is likely that only females wíll be able to handle simultaneous inputs easily ...
