Intresting Observation Of Mine

alright, yesterday, in history, i was whirling a globe around, bored as the teacher lectures. So, i stop and look at the Meditrrian (sp?) sea area. Then, i notice 3 names of areas. Crete, Malta, Tripoli. All places in or bordering the meditrrian sea. Hmmmmm very intresting, no?

Um, ok. If you every studied world history, you should have know that. Anyway, mostly ALL of the FL bases/planets are named for existing places today...

Thanks captain obvious!
here's another cool thing:

wow ok listen to this. I was playing this way cool game called freelancer one day and I noticed that the starting planet is called manhatten! Isn't that an actual place??? wow dude.

I think other names like texas, colorado, new york, missouri, dublin, berlin, alaska, might be real places on the earth too. Maybe i should try spinning a globe around on my fingers too.
Is that the most far out coincidence you've ever seen!!!!!!
ok srry im being so sarcastic but...
nothing personal but that was a little wierd man.

Hey, its not like he let himself in for this by saying "Ohh look most places in Fl are named after real places" did he? no, he didnt. I actually learned something, I always did think Malta was a city or something, Crete some island somewere and Tripoli I never heard of till I played Fl.
No need to get all sarcastic on his ass just cuase happened upon something like this.
I always did like finding Fl places in the real world, you know were they got ther insperation from.

those who don't actually live near the med.sea. (Amaricans and such) probably don't know the places there and I don't blame them, cause Bering? I never heard of it, or what about Tohoku and Kyushu. Until FL I never heard of them and I was just as surprised as cid22011 was when I saw that those Kusari systems actually were a part of Japan

yeah I'm with you on that one...I was about to flame but changed my mind at the last minute.

I'm surprised you didn't know Malta though, it was after all one of the key places in World War II.....

....thats the one were the americans waited til everyone killed each other and then came in and "saved the day" (or so hollywood would have us believe).

Sorry that was political, I apologise. Malta is beautiful though...Crete was too until us brits send over the lager-lout element to trash the place.

That is interesting that the three are so close togather. I didn't know wtf Kusari was and I figured malta had somthing to do with malt wich had somthing to do with cardamine refining/production. I watch my share of ww2 history and never heard of malta. Tripoli is a north african country (or was when the baby us had problems with them in the 1800's). If outcasts and corsairs all came from the Hispania (sp?) than it's not suprising these places were close togather on earth

"I'm surprised you didn't know Malta though, it was after all one of the key places in World War II....."

Look at my first post. Do you think i pay attention in history? hell no.

Post Wed Sep 17, 2003 11:45 pm

If you pay no attention to history, you should probably avoid starting a thread about it, no?

Kyushu is the southmost island of Japan.

Tohoku is a northern province on the island of Honshu.

Malta is a small island just south of Italy.

Crete is a larger island south of Greece.

The weird thing is that "Bretonia" and "Rheinland" do not even exist. Unless they are derivations of "Britannia" and "Rhineland".

Of course, many times in history the British have been refered to as Bretons. So that might be the case.

Actually, I think "Rheinland" might be the German spelling. But I'm not sure. Anyone speak German here?

reinland= germany
bretonia= england

As for the person who said i shouldn't have made this topic. I can make a topic if i want to, as long as it is relevant and on topic. Anyway, there are a couple of people who didn't know it, so me making this isn't a waste of time.

Actually, Bretonia refers to the entire United Kingdom.

England is just a part of the U.K., granted it's the most historically significant, but nevertheless, it is a part of the U.K.

And it should in fact be spelled "Britannia." "Bretonia" is just a derivation.
