Cheating in single player

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Cheating in single player

Changing the way the Freelancer world works is not only possible but fairly easy. One can change one's personal account (wealth), ship stats etc. This, however, is considered cheating.

One treatise on cheating claims that modifying ones own universe is perfectly acceptable as it effects no others. I disagree - to a certain extent. While merely modifying the given conditions of the game without paying any "price" is certainly cheating, I wonder if making ship modifications with an appropriate reduction of ones bank account would be cheating. I think that it would be a previously unconsidered reflection of reality.

In the real world, you can modify your vehicle nearly any way you want, provided that you have enough money. I propose that the community develop standard costs for ship upgrades currently unavailable.

Of course I may be the only one who cares about making modifications without cheating. In that case I'll just figure out what I think is a good price and charge myself.

Modifying your own single player game without price or consequence might be cheating, but I see nothing wrong with it.

Personally, I cheat on most games when i first try them (in SP mode) so that I can quickly determine whether or not the game is even worth playing. After I figure that out, I'll either take the game back (sorry, but it didn't work properly on my machine - mainly because games are meant to be fun. If they aren't fun on my machine, then they didn't 'work' properly) OR I keep it and begin the game in non-cheat mode.

I play alot of games. I don't want to spend 30 hours getting to the point where I realize the game stinks. That is my justification. I am not interested in other opinions because frankly, it does not affect anyone else, and hence, is none of their business.
