Trading?

Hello, I just installed Freelancer today and I have one question. Well, right now I am at level 6 and on California Minor. I just finished a bar-job and I am looking to go into the Trading Career.. but I do not know where to start. Here is my current ship status:

Ship: Defender Liberty Heavy Fighter
Weapons:
1) Justice Mk III Class 3 ( 2 of them )
2) Lavablade Mk III Class 3
3) Magma Hammer Mk I Class 4 ( 2 of them )
4) Lavablade Turret Mk II Class 3
5) Wasp Cruise Disruptor
6) Razor Mine
7) Counter Measure Dropper

Hope that helps... but I think i would have to drop this ship and buy a trading ship wouldnt I?

I know you posted in the spoiler forum, but trying not to spoil things too much for you (like telling you of higher-level cargo ships to wait for)...

Yeah, you'll want a ship with lots of cargo space. The Rhino is the only easy one to get in Liberty space; available on most of the planets including Los Angeles there in California.

To start trading, just buy a commodity somewhere and then go somewhere to sell it for more money. Simple really. A decent run to get you started from Los Angeles (without dipping into the world of smuggling and contraband) is to take Polymers from there to Planet Denver in Colorado for a profit of $160 per unit. Then buy H-Fuel at Denver and take it back to somewhere in the California system for a good profit as well.

Visit many bases and stations, get all their commodity prices into your neural net, and you'll be able to figure out good cargo runs yourself.

My trade run I used to build up a tidy sum was planet los Angeles (buy boron at low price) take it to Stokes Mining Station in Leeds. It's a little risky if you use the Jump Hole in the Manchester system but if your armed right you can make it. The boron purchas price is about $140 in Los Angeles and sells for $900 at Stokes.

Take a load of berillium from Stokes back to Los Angeles on the return trip. Overall it will net about 100,000 plus per run.

Well, he's not going to be leaving LIberty just yet if he's level 6 (He didn't say if he's playing SP or MP but given that the campaign takes you to California Minor when you're level 6 I think that's a good bet )

depends on how friendly you are with various factions...
how good a pilot you are
do you prefer running or fighting?

a nice easy NY 3 way run would be...(rogues and xenos aside)

Detroit - Side Arms to Rochester
Rochester - Gold to Baltimore Shipyard
Fort Bush - H-Fuel to Detroit

a few of these in a rhino and you will be able to afford a bigger better ship for longer harder runs...

Just my $0.02, but it could just be the cardamine talking.
