Getting past Outcasts

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Getting past Outcasts

I am finding it impossible to survive the 8 or so Outcasts that await me when I arrive in Tau-37 (or is it Omicron-Alpha?). Same problem when I arrive in Omega-41 with the 8 or so Red Hessians. My goal at this point is just to get the best equipment I can in an unmodded game and be able to handle travel through the few remaining systems. I either need to be able to fight in the Omicron systems or be friendly with some of the main denizens.

From the bribe list, I see that there are only 4 friendlies that might offer me a bribe to help me with my Outcast rep (I don't even know how much effect it would have). I spent two hours trying docking and undocking and never got an offer. Right now I am pretty good guy. The Outcasts and Red Hessians hate me. I tried starting to attack Xenos in hopes that it would help my Outcast rep, but that turned out to be worthless.

Can I do anything to be able to beat a large group of Outcasts? Is it easier or preferable to get friendly with them so I can buy stuff at Crete/Malta? How? I should mention that my fighting ability is medium. I can evade 4, maybe 5, Outcasts almost indefinitely, but never use countermeasures, mines, missiles, or strafing.

My Ship: Hammerhead
My Shields: Protector H.F. Shield (lev 7 graviton)
My Weapons: 3 Wyrm Type 2 (lev 9), 1 Natterturn (lev 8), 1 Vassago (lev 7), 1 Eliminator (lev 7)

Thanks for any assistance!

Do what I do.

Go to Ouray base and start killing Xenos until the Outcasts go neutral.

Take your Hammerhead to Manhattan and destroy the two Police depots there. After that the criminals will stop shooting and many will love you dearly. I did this in a Starflier so it should be not be overly difficult in a Hammerhead.

The Bounty Hunters also have depots (Deshima) and every outlaw hates them. Just in case you run out of police depots before you have rebalanced your rep sheet enough.

For survival training, buy a Starflier with a class 2 graviton shield and whatever guns you like, and take it to the Silverton Flying School^W^WAsteroid Field in Colorado. Start going back and forth between the New York jump hole and Pueblo Station, and tangle with Xenos until you have become good enough so that the number of shield batteries does not decrease over time. You may use batts but you have to loot them back and on average the number of batts should go up (or at the very least remain the same). This will teach you dodging enemy gun fire.

Then buy a Drake and go to the Omegas/Omicrons (except Alpha/Gamma where the enemies are level 18/19) and learn dodging enemy gun fire plus missiles plus mines. Make sure that at least the dominant criminal faction (i.e. Outcasts/Corsairs) or the Bounty Hunters are hostile, though, because otherwise there would be no point. All the other factions are complete pushovers, except for the GMG.

Then buy a Banshee and head into Omicron Alpha/Gamma, whichever happens to be hostile at that point. This will teach you do serious damage while dodging high-powered mines/missiles/gunfire (level 18/19 NPC ships tend to have almost double the normal armour).

After that you should be able to survive indefinitely in any hostile environment in the Sirius sector - but you'll probably have a hard time downgrading from a light fighter to a flying brick like the Hammerhead or Sabre (not to mention the mobile weapons platform known as Titan).

Simple, go into your relations record (top right of the screen, looks like a standing man) and click on outcasts. See who their enemies are and start kicking the crap out of them. You say tou have a hammerhead which is okay but cant deal with gobs of bounty hunters so DONT ATTACK BOUNTY HUNTERS until youve got a better ship.

It must be the Cardamine talking

If you can get to freeport 10 in tau 37, the bar man is offering a bribe to be friends with the outcasts. being freinds with the bounty hunters is a good idea as they always hang around jumpholes and will help you out and they live at freeport 10 so to speak, when you get a better ship you can go from freeport 10 in and out of the omicron alpha jumphole shooting up outcasts and make a million a hour selling their guns and missiles at freeport 10.

Head to New York, park yourself in the middle of the trade lane between Ft.Bush and Norfolk shipyard, and start killing transports. Outcasts, Rogues, and Hackers will be the first three to start liking you, and if you keep it up long enough, the Corsairs will too. Much better than takinga bribe, because you can reap profits from it.

Reaper: $200,000,000.
Rockets: $100,000
The look on that pilot's face when you launch a full pod of screamers up his tailpipe: priceless

first get a better sheild. If the red hessians hate you then the cosirs should be neutral stock up on weapons at there bases mabye get a Titan. If the cosirs do not like you start killing poor red hessians and then build up. Just carry on playing and you'll get there in the end.

Aslo, kill GMG in sigma 13. That will fix your rep with corsairs and outcasts.

I WILL CRUSH YOU

Thanks, all. The most efficient looking solution turned out to be the most efficient one. I went to Manhattan and blew up a couple police depots and a storage depot. It took about 5 minutes and was all that was needed. The Outcasts became neutral with me (The Bounty Hunters remained neutral with me). It was easy then to go get a Sabre and an Adv. Brigadine Shield. "Game Over." I was then able to map the rest of the systems without problem, picking up better weapons from wrecks and destroyed ships. Picked up a Nomad gun along the way, too!

I will mention that using a full complement (six) guns that use maximum energy (and do maximum damage) seems to be better then the lower energy/damage weapons. I just don't fire unless I am on crosshairs. That gives enough recharge time. Hard to beat the kind of damage they do. I am not that great a fighter and it only takes me three passes on a Nomad ship to destroy it.
