Mission 10

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Mission 10

I am sooooo stuck in mission 10 destroy experimental battleships. Anybody able to help please?
I'm in a Barracuda with starkillers and decent weapons but nothing seems to hurt the experimental ships.

PS fist post here and must say TOP site guys.

just keep flying by, shooting it, launhing a torpedo, shooting it, launching a torpedo, etc. After a certain amount of time, a cut scene will take over.

yeah, then it says, we've seen enough, go to the JH nearby, on the other side of the minefield

Patience, my dear, patience. IIRC the experimental battleships have 120k hitpoints, so this will take a while even if you fly a Barracuda or Dragon.

You can get a rough idea of the time needed for taking out one of these battleships if you determine the sustained damage rate that you can attain with your loadout. For gun damage, multiply the powerplant recharge rate with the gun efficiency (assuming you have enough guns to drain the plant). For example, a Starflier with Xenos particle guns will produce 95 e/s * 4.80 dmg/e = 456 dmg/s, a Drake with Farmers' Alliance neutron guns 290 * 6.00 = 1740 and a Barracuda with mediocre laser guns 345 * 3.20 = 1104.

Starkiller torpedos produce about 1200 dmg/s, Catapult/Moonstalker missiles 600 dmg/s, Driller mines 500 dmg/s. As a rule, a missile launcer produces roughly the same damage per second as a decent gun of the same class. Mines are way overpriced and produce a bit less damage (still more than a mediocre gun, though). They are a good option if you do not want to sacrifice a gun for a missile launcher and cannot mount a torpedo launcher because you don't fly a heavy fighter.

Optimal loadout: The class 6 FA guns drain 106 e/s, therefore you need more than three of these guns to fully utilize the sustained power output a Barracuda or Dragon. So, if you load four Vulture 3, two class 5 missile launchers plus Starkillers on a Barracuda or Dragon then you can produce a sustained damage rate of

345 * 6.00 + 2 * 600 + 1200 = 4470

but even so it would take almost 30 seconds of uninterrupted fire to destroy the target ...

If you park your fighter inside one of the battleships then the Rheinland fleet will help you destroy it - the fighters, gunboats and battleship will continue to shoot guns and missiles at you but they hit the battleship instead. When I did this in a Starflier it took less than two minutes two blow up the ship, instead of the three to four minutes indicated by the 456 dmg/s of my Starflier (could not use mines because of the blast radius).

Sherlog, you did this mission in a Starflier ???

How'd you survive the radiation? Or anything else for that matter?

Only in the mine field is the radiation really strong, and I hurried through that with cruise engines and thrusters to conserve nanos.

As for the rest, the Starflier is one of the most manoeuverable ships in the game - same as Drake, only Patriot is even better. There is a world of difference between these three ships and the other light fighters ... That is why the melee scenes were no more difficult in the Starflier with its class 3 shield than in a class 6 heavy brick with class 5 shield. The only tough things were high-powered missiles and enemies with rear turrets (Valkyrie).

The Starflier picks up more enemy fire than the Patriot and In a heavy battle the shields tend to be somewhere between low and failed; this means a single missile hit can take out most of the armour (or all of it, if hull strength was less than 100% to begin with). If you are on the six of an enemy with a rear turret then your shields will go down rather than up as usual, and it is risky to stay there once the shields have failed; thus one must try to get at those fighters from below or from the side, which requires a bit more work than just getting on their six and blasting away until they explode.

The Starflier is a much better fighter than most people would give it credit for, probably because they fly it when they are still learning how to fly and because the Starflier is overshadowed by the Patriot which is even better and costs only a few hundred credits more.

If you try to complete the game in a ship you can buy in Liberty you have too much spare time. Or you're just REALLY big time bored with PvP, high-pay, really easy missions and SP.

Currently I cannot play MP because I do not have a reliable Internet connection and not a hole lot of spare time. For me, beating the game in light ships was simply another way of extracting fun from SP ... It did not take long, either. Total time played (w/o deaths, if any): Dagger 7:57 h, Patriot 8:09 h, Starflier 8:28 h. All in multiple sittings, sometimes a full week without playing at all.

BTW, I resent the 'try' bit of your statement.

Thanks chaps and chapesses. Hung on till I blew one of the exp. Battleships then told to run like a Wookie in a wig factory, ....finaly progress! Now, on Osiris, should I buy the Anubis or will everyone gun for me in an Order ship?

Belay that last question, researched the answer about an Anubis myself. Aah, this game, at least my fingers get exercise.

Because we move in different circles, doesn't mean I'm square
