Some ideas:
Turn off all but one of your guns before you shoot the wreck... I've blown up the wreck and the loot all in one shot before.
in you HUD, make sure that the wreck has full armor, only wrecks that have full armor give goodies.
Not all wrecks give goodies, but there might be another ship within 1-2K that does have something interesting, fly around in a 5k circle (maybe turn the rest of your guns on first and see if anything else shows up

I believe we've met yesterday in MP... but I'm not sure..

As to your question: NPATH has a good point, especially when you use guns with different projectile speeds (say 550 and 700) there's a chance your blowing up loot in one shot..

You’re all thinking in a straight line guys. It is far more likely he isn’t getting any loot because someone got there first. I have shot wrecks with everything I had before and not destroyed the loot. But that is neither here nor there, in multiplayer the first thing everyone does after a reboot is hit the wrecks.

thats true. also tell us if the loot was actually THERE when you were trying to tractor it in? and what was the loot anyways

so is it that if someone gets to the wreck on that certain sever first and grabs everything then no one can ever get that stuff again or do they reset after a while?

Is your cargo hold full, cos that will certainly stop you from tractoring in new cargo.
