Race Track

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

I have looked at that post about how to beat Hovis. Yes it is a bit more detailed but still refers to lines of code I can't find. Both of the experts seem to suggest that a decompressor utility or such like is needed for the original .init file. Any techie guys out there who can advise. It must be possible to do this but we just don't know quite all the details.

Explanation of how to decrypt ini files time! I prefer to use this utility because it has a user interface. Install and then run the program. Choose "Browse" and navigate to the directory that contains the ini file you want to decrypt. Select it click "Open" and then "Decrypt". From here on just follow the instructions I have already posted. If you are using notepad after opening the file press "Ctrl+G" to bring up a dialog to skip to the correct line which is 775.

Mega Star, so what you mean is, you end up with an extra file called "m06.ini.txt"
and this is what actually gets you past the race,
right?
bini lite is OK

Post Fri Jun 27, 2003 5:09 am

That is correct m06.ini.txt is the file that you have to edit. I forgot to mention the most important part though! Sorry about that. You have to rename "m06.ini.txt" to "m06.ini" (no quotes (of course)). Make sure that you back up the original file so that if something goes wrong you will not have to reinstall Freelancer. Though there should not be any problems if you follow the instruction correctly.

MegaStar you are more than just a MegaStar you are a Super Nova. Many thanks for your patience and help - it is a great example of what a forum is all about.

I am now happily flying away from Hovis and able to get on with the rest of the game.

Megastar, so you then delete the original mo6.ini file right?
when you delete the line "Act_ActTrig = com_0170"
and replce it with -
"tm_dexterhumbled
you press enter & save ?
why do you uncheck the "Hide extensions for known file types" option.

Post Fri Jun 27, 2003 8:40 pm

You have to uncheck the option because if you did not the new file would appear to be named "m06.ini" when it is really "m06.ini.txt". There would be no way of removing the seconded extension. You could always just bypass this step by using "Save As…" and selecting "All Files" from the "Files of Type" pull down menu. Whichever you prefer.

mgeastar, tried changing mo6.ini, did not work, using w98se, would only let me edit in wordpad, deleted line then typed in tm_dexterhumbled did not press enter as that would add xtra blank line?
then saved file, deleted old file,
got to start of race, hovis yells at droid, then it goes to a HUD view sitting at first gate, but nothing happens, if you fly away, hovis yells at you, theres a mission waypoint in the list just to right of Hood,
help? please?

My mistake (again). As you can see I am very prone to making typing mistakes. You have to precede
"tm_dexterhumbled" with
"Act_ActTrig = " so that the entire line look like this
"Act_ActTrig = tm_dexterhumbled".

Post Sat Jun 28, 2003 9:29 am

You replace only the bit after the equals sign. That is change the whole line to Act_ActTrig = tm-dexterhumbled.

You probably dont need to worry about the show files tab since obviously you can see the .ini file. When you edit it and save remember to save it as an .ini file rather than a text file. If you rename it as mo6.ini it will overwrite your original file. Of course you made a copy of that first

This seems to work. Good luck.

Megastar, Lodro et all, thanx, i've been stuck on that Bl--dy race for over a week now, (plus building a patio as well, i'll need a patio area to chill in if there are any more missions like the Hovis Race ! )
Changed -
"Act_ActTrig = com_0170" to "Act_ActTrig = tm_dexterhumbled" in wordpad,(note the spaces around the = ) and it worked like a dream, don’t wait to long going back to the Hood, went to the fridge for a can to celebrate and Hovis had got pigged off again and changed his mind! Loaded autosave & sorted it!
seems obvious now, Act_ActTrig = Action Trigger? I'm not a code writer, would like to be though, but what does "tm_" mean?
The race seems to be v/hard and different, after the experience of previous missions, i could not seem to turn hard enough after the fourth or fith gate, i forget which, would that be better with a joystick?
Some reviews do critise Freelancer for lack of joystick support, repetitive dialogue & missions, but what seems to make FL interesting is the amount of mods available, just look at the home page of this site, at least one new mod every day!
That must indicate the level of interest in FL tho?
A good idea for a mod must be the ability to come back to the hovis race at random, gaining credits for each win or losing credits for each loss, getting that little bit harder after each win?
What do y’all think?
My personal favourite idea for a mod is a Klingon System, Kronos Home planet, plus moons, stations belonging to opposing Klingon factions, if any lot like a good inter-racial bust-up, its our knobbly foreheaded mates!
Thanx again guys (n’gals)

Follow up question. Having beat Hovis, and the mission, is it possible to get in the racing league thing?

Post Sun Jun 29, 2003 7:44 am

annother good idead for a mod history, should broaden the appeal of the game, and answer some of the critisisms i've red in some mags/sites....

You don't have to buy the Cavalier, heck I beat it in a Crusader, he bumped me the first time, and that's the only reason I lost, but the second time I easily beat him.
