Fast track to the Sabre ***SPOILER *** (maybe)

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Fast track to the Sabre ***SPOILER *** (maybe)

Hi All,

Sorry this turned into such a long post. (I had to share the moment ;-)

" I've been playing FL for a while now. I got tired of playing. Tired of flying around Primus wishing they would give me a mission or maybe Juni would show up ;-)
I found the best paying trade routes but hate flying a freighter :b
I hung out around Liberty hoping Orillion would make good on his job offer.
Nope. Lifes over. I gotta stop playing this game !

Wait ... Hmmm ... How fast can I get my favorite ship ? Oh ! hmmm ? Wow !!!

Hrs and Hrs of fun !

I made my first attempt , starting from newbie, going from ship upgrade to ship upgrade. Too long. Getting up to TAU-37 , making friends with outcasts, etc. Not again

Where else did I see the Sabre ??? Ahhhh ! I remember !

So I started planning the route. looking for wrecks. Checking my Rep. Counting the minutes it took from A to B... 7 Hrs.

I think it should have been 4 hrs. I died, took too long on that mission. Got lost ;-)

I kept re-running, cutting this, adding that. Finally ! 4 hrs 15 mins.

Wait !!! If I could just find one more wreck. Hmmm ... Yes ! 3 hrs 20 mins !!!

Ahh, Under 4 hrs. (a feeling of accomplishment floods in). But what about ... Hmmm...
Explore,Explore, time , time, Wrecks more wrecks. YES ! Wow, cool , no bad guys. 2 HRS 45 MINS !!!

Tweak, tweak, run, run, run. Now just the right missions ...

OMG ! 2 HRS 3 MINS !!! YES ! YES ! YES ! I'm the man ! I'm , I'm ...

Calm down. It's just a game... ok, I'm calm, but ... YES!!!! "

This is the most fun I've had in a while. The run I ended up with is very challenging. Lots of running, some good fights and a LOT of thinking. It just goes to show, just when you think the games is over, it starts all over again;-)

Have fun,
Sloan

PS... If you get it faster post it here ! (Cargo runs not included, void where prohibited ;-)

Very good but won't work online, as most if not all wrecks will have been picked clean so your easy cash isn't there.

Last time I started a new character online, I took my time and had my Eagle/lvl 10 shield/Standard PvP weaponary in just under 5 hours from trading. That was on a active server. Others have done it quicker with the better trading routes but I'm happy with it.

Ahh, I wondered about that. I play on my lan so I have the wrecks to myself. Seems so few 'suprises' for so many people. I'm sure the folks that run the server (or those in the know) grab all the goodies each time the server is rebooted. Oh well. I was hoping MS built it on a player by player basis so everyone could get there own, once. Wish in one hand ... ;-)

Some things aren't worth trying a second time, Freelancer ain't one of 'em ;-)

I still don't understand why everyone wants to get the VHF right from the beginning (or at least as quickly as possible). Isn't there anyone who just plays the game at a normal pace? Well, I can tell you, I'm not one of those people

Good idea to keep the freelancer experience going a bit longer. Try some of the other exciting freelancer challenges (all posted in various threads before):

1 Finish single player using only light fighters (easy)
2 Finish single player using only freighters (medium hard)
3 Finish single player using only a Liberty ship of your choice (hard, but has been done)
4 Play as a pirate without using trade lanes or jump gates - holes only (not tried this one yet - sounds like it could be ok)
5 My personal favourite - finish single player using only 2 ships fom start to finish: I used Starflier --> Hawk for this. Gets tricky leaving Bretonia but not that hard really.
6 Feel free to add some more of your own.

Not the intention maswastage. I agree, the game is in the playing. It's just that I enjoyed this scenario very much. I think others would too. I am thinking of how it would fit into a single player mod, but it wouldn't be the same without all the trial and error ;-) Half the fun of any game is rethinking your failures and overcomming the next time. This is definitely a trip your must go through several times ;-)

Some good things to try, thanks circ.
I think I'll skip the freighter trek though ;-)
I suck as a cargo pilot

Having played so much, the pirate using only jump holes seems wrong. I know where all the needed jump holes are. In SP the NPC's reveal the locations. Could you advance in MP from system to system ? I haven't explored the 'darkside' much yet. Do they give info on other (hidden) bases for your next 'stage' ? I HAVE found out you can't make much profit selling if you can't dock at 'legit' bases.
There was another thead about befriending rouges and keeping Liberty 'open'. I think I'll explore that. I guess you could apply that to any faction, keeping a friendy trade zone open.

See, there's no such thing as the end, just a switch to the next adventure ;-)

Well I have played the single a number of times and built about 30 characters online 25 of which where lost down to servers dissapearing or corrupted or plain stupid admins deleting the save folder.

So I know enough about the game to get what I want, what I do now is get a decent setup and Show new players what there missing. Helps to have a decent ship as they usually can fight worth crap, so you have to defend them all the time.

Half the fun of playing as a pirate is shooting the cr@p out of transports and nicking their cargo - good profits there! Get into the character style and shoot all the police as well. It's only a game - you won't get arrested. Find the bases and jump holes by selecting "patrol path" on the nav map. It's a whole new game playing as an outlaw instead of a law abiding trader.

Give in to the Dark Side. If you only knew the power .... it is your destiny.
