How can I get Past Mission 3

I always get stuck at mission 3 (soundproblems still not solved)

Can i skip this mission or get around it in some way?

I haven't had the problem myself but I've heard that you can shoot the enemy ships until they have only an ounce of hull left, then ramming them the rest of the way.
