What is a good way to find systems,jump holes,planets,etc.?

Systems: ehm, follow the trade lanes and go through the jump gates

Planets: can you miss them? Head towards the big round things

Bases and jumpholes: look on the nav map and click "patrol path", where patrol routes interset you will often find a base, jumphole or wreck

Follow the Patrol Paths on the Nav Map, they usually meet near such places...
For example, if you're hostile to Bounty Hunters, look for a place where a number of red patrol path lines are connecting into a dot. There has to be something of importance nearby.
