If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Missile or Gun (or both)

What is the best setup for a fighter with 4 gun/missile slots??
And what is the best setup for a fighter with 6 gun/missile slots??
And what is the best setup for a fighter with 5 gun/missile slots??

Weapon class doesn't matter only how much guns and missiles

all guns, no missles. nuff said.

If I had a nickel for every time someone told me that my idea for melting down coins to make a giant robotic parrot was a bad idea, I would have one kicka$$ giant robotic parrot.

3 missiles? Do me a lemon! You're havin' a laugh

I'd say all guns.

I used a missile launcher throughout the SP campaign, but I switched to all guns after that, simply because a loadout c10 and c9 guns can do as much as any missile without the cost of ammunition.

Why would anyone want all those extras on there ship??? All guns I say also. Especially NO TORPEDOS!!!! why would anyone want to pay like 180k or whatever for the sunslayer plus 7.5k for each unit of ammo, when the sunslayers only do like 11000 damage, sure thats alot for one torpedo but if you think about it... If you have 7 SkyBlast B's firing at once... Skyblasts do 244 damage pershot at a refire rate of 8.33,... do the math. 244x8.33 = 2032.52, 2032x7=14224.... So one second of straight firing all seven skyblasts does more damage than that $7500 torpedo. All guns man!!!

Yeah, missiles aren't so great. Expensive, and I hate that sinking feeling when I watch one curve off target.

Mines aren't so great, either. I can't remember the last time I was hit by one, and I don't shy away from PvP combat. I've seen a lot more mines explode up their owner's tailpipe than I have seen hit anything useful.

Torpedoes aren't so bad. I like the cheaper Starkillers. Nice to have if you need to kill a station somewhere (not that I take too many missions). Cruise disruptors are no fun. I chased down a player through two systems -- that was fun! He ended the fight when he flew backwards into a Sigma 13 gas field. Whoops!

Post Fri May 23, 2003 6:22 am

starkiller torpedos yes, missiles no. The torpedo launched into a crowded formation at max range usually hits something. Just fire it at boost. The torpedo is a free missile slot IF you know how to use it. the starkiller does 2000 damage for 312 dollars a shot... it works.

I have been using missiles for ...experimental... purposes. If you mount missiles, mount only one, fire at full boost, and make sure the bad guys are either coming straight at you, or straight away. If they are flying at a 90 degree angle, its a guaranteed miss. Kill shields with guns FIRST unless you are firing emp missiles.

Missles are awesome, they're so much fun to use. And they look cooler than any gun.

At least in light fighter combat, two Windstalker launchers will DEMOLISH anything. Use 2 normal guns, a shield-killer gun, and two Windstalkers....take out the shield, make sure they can't dodge'em, and then let loose the two missles and it's a nice quick kill.

I've gotten some stylish kills with mines and missles, to hell with guns.

Missiles and Torps have a second use:
Giving you something to DO with that $6 million. Really, what ELSE are you going to use it for once you have a fully outfitted class 10 ship? If you have the money, use it...don't squander your dough by letting it sit around doing nothing.

parabolix, torpedos are CRITICAL in my PvP strategy, which is combat proven. I use them instead of missiles because they don't take a gun slot, and I can dodge AND do damage to my opponents at the same time. Your maths shows that a Sunslayer launcher saves me 7112 shield points per head on pass because I pass that second's worth of killing to the torpedo to do and spend it dodging incomings instead. And tell you guys a secret... all ships sold in Siruis come with this secret device called the Electronic Distraction System which is designed to distract their own pilots and get them killed! And all torpedos sold in Sirius come with this secret tiggering device that activates the EDS on the target ship, which then sends an unnerving TORPEDO INCOMING!!!!! scream into the pilot's headset at the worst possible moment to completely throws off his aim!

CW, are you using torps against non-moving targets? Freighters moving in a straight line? Or are you running up against people that like to do head-on charges? Even in a head-on attack, doesn't incoming fire from the target kill the torp?
