So when do we get to invade Earth?

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Well, time is relative yes, but it contracts or dilates significantly ONLY if you are moving at very fast speeds. So if you stay in Sirius for 800 years where the star system's relative motion to Sol is very small, then 800 years should also have passed in Sol. I'm not sure I follow where the Einsteinian can of worms thing you are referring to is.

This "Sirius Sector" I agree does not mean a galaxy, which does indeed have hundreds of billions of stars. I think more like a local cluster of stars, kind of like the Pleides:

Problem is, Sirius (Alpha Canis Majoris) is actually part of the local cluster around the star known as Sol.. It's a shame those programmers went through so much trouble to include all sorts of astronomical data in the game such as the spectral class and luminosity of the stars and all sorts of different celestial bodies only to choose the wrong background to set the game in.

I am impressed by you astronomical knowlegde but I detect flaws in it. First of all yes Sirious is in the constellation canis major, but no it does not go around sol, which is our star more commonly know as the sun. We along with sirious and billions of other stars rotate around the center of our galaxy known as the milky way.

so there I had a great picture of sirious in it constellation but I am not as technically inclined as you, and I couldn't figure out how to post the picture. I could use a little help on how to post pictures thanks

LOL I think you might need to give me a bit more credit. I didn't say Sirius goes around Sol. What I wrote above (look again!) is that Sirius is around Sol's neighborhood-- In our local cluster of stars.

It's relatively easy to include images in a message... Just click on the blue "forum codes" link next to the message entry box and it will tell you how to link it so it appears.

HTH!

didnt work sad

Post Thu May 08, 2003 4:08 am

when you do that img= thing, you must give it an HTTP address. It can't link to images right off your own computer, only images on websites.

say the image I want to show on my message is at my own website, then I would type img=http://www.myisp.com/~me/image.jpg (enclose the line in brackets of course).

That way the image shows up.

HTH!

One thing though, when the sleeper ships left, the coalition was winning, yes? so does that mean that they are still in control, or did the Aliance somehow bounce back.

And another thing, in Starlancer, every ship had a nifty little jump drive for traveling in-system. Surely the alliance would have equipped the colonists with the plans for this drive, so why do we have to muck around with tradelanes?

That's just one of the storyline continuity "problems" (cougherrorscough).. Others abound, like the 5 vs. 8 sleeper ship debate, and the fact that cloaking devices existed in SL but is such a shock to Trent and company in FL..

Not defending the developers, but I suppose continuity errors exist in every sci-fi franchise (Star Trek, Star Wars, Wing Commander, etc.) and this one is no exception..

Alright I think I have figured it out so I will try this whole picture thing wish me luck. I chose a little diagram of canis major with sirious in it!

Post Sat May 10, 2003 6:01 am

well that didnt work so I will give it another go. Cross your fingers on this one. God I am not good at this.

Post Sat May 10, 2003 6:53 am

Yep, it verks, I can see the image you linked to. Nicely done!

Look at that.. Tau's on the left, Omicrons on the right.. I guess Alpha Canis Major (Sirius proper) would be somewhere above the Kusari systems on the game map then.

Personally I think the Eagle Nebula or Orion Nebula would have made a better setting for FL.. But what's done is done I guess. Ah vell.
