Life after the nomads...

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Life after the nomads...

Greetings,

I am a fanatical gamer it would seem. I bought the game wednesday and today is friday and I already completed the single player campaign. Now what is there for me to do?

I enjoyed the game and it doesn't feel right to just throw it with the rest of the old games after 2 days of (very intens and fun) gaming.

The missions in the bar are always "go there and kill everthing" without much sense purpose or the feeling like you are making a diffrence. What else is out there? Bear in mind that I have only seen the systems the campaign has brought me.

More Nomads Malta and Crete lots of stuff.

well, since youve only seen about 1/3 of the systems out there...get out and explore. i had a bunch of fun looking for all the jump holes. and if missions are your bag, they seem funner when theres a 250,000 credit reward for you....

I'd say there are at least 100 more hours of gameplay before you have been everywhere, seen everything, and bought the best ship with the best equipment. Trust me; you are not done.

While I agree that there is loads to do after the single player game concludes (after about 15 hours or so, which just right to give you a taster of the game world I think) I'd posit that 100 hours game time after that is a bit optimistic :-)

I've not quite made it to 40 hours total game time and I'm on the cusp of L38, have a Titan with Nomad guns in all L10 slots, and have seen every system (except an 'unknown' one off one of the Omicron systems that I'll be checking out tomorrow :-), and every base (I *think*. Some may have slipped through the net).

Not that I have a problem with 40 hours mind you (bearing in mind I haven't got bored of the game yet). For 30 pounds it have given me the best bang fo buck of any game I have bought recently.

Dont forget to go back and replay the game as a freighter Captian once you tire of the fighter campain.

No, I'd still say there are 100 hours to see absolutely everything- every wreck, aquire every weapon, explore every corner of every system, landing on every single base/planet, and finding any other secrets located in the game. Plus, exploring different trade routes, doing at least one job for every single faction (that could be one of 'em post-lvl38 challenges) and just visiting different places when you feel like it.

You make it sound like you can't get the fill of a game until you have systematically explored every conceivable facet. I tend to take a more pragmatic approach (Look at it from Trent's point of view after all; He's in it for the money and will do whatever assists that goal, and shy away from that which doesn't) Acquiring every weapon? I acquired the best I could mount each time I upgraded; who wants to use inferiour equipment for no reason? Explore every corner of every system? I consider exploring every patrol route (and a bit more besides) in all the systems I have been in to be a reasonable amount of exporation. I draw the line at systematically flying up and down each system in a grid-like pattern because I suspect such an activity is not profitable. Exploring different trade routes? Check. Trading is very easy in Freelancer and it does not take long to see the best of it. Hell, I even tried mining in different systems (not really worth the effort for the time involved).

I think even if I wanted to arbitrarily do a mission for every faction (frankly I've lost track of who I have dealt with :-), and raid every wreck (instead of just noting it's position and taking a peek) I don't think it would take another 60 hours on top of the 40 I've logged so far.

Without cheating, how else to find wrecks? Anyway, only the clouds/fields
need to be searched like this.

No, you don't have to do everything to get tired of the game; all I'm saying is that there is alot to do, if you want to do it.

I find that at this stage (lvl 38, VHF, Nomad guns, etc.) I start finding smuggling more and more fun. But my goal is not to get detected/scanned at all and if they do I never fight, just run (wouldn't be much of a match, plus I want to keep the cops at least neutral). Getting from Malta to Manhattan undetected is quite a challenge.
Just one minor gripe: don't see why it isn't far more profitable than legit trading...

May I ask something?

What are u able to "smuggle"? I have transported all things. I think I have.. and I havnt been attacked one single time cuz of illegal smuggling.

so, how, what and where can I smuggle?

The wrecks I have found so far have been those near patrol routes I have explored mainly, or when I have faffed about taking 'shortcuts' through some systems. I dont' claim to have found all the wrecks (aside from checking the online maps I'll never know for sure :-). However, I never bothered to check out wrecks after the first dozen or so (other than noting it's location) because they didn't really excite me at all. Trading and comabt is more my thing, and the exploration I do is to facilitate the discovery of new trade routes.

Infact, from the completion of the single player game (at L18?) through to L34 I didn't take a single combat mission. I do them now (at L37) because I'm rock hard (love those Nomad guns :-) and the missions can pay back more than I can get from any single trade run* (I traded in Heavy Fighters, which of course restricted the rate at which I could accrue money). As a result I only have about 1100 combat kills logged.

*- I never touched illegal goods trading (Trent is a good guy :-), and perishable items are a pain in the behind when you can only carry 70 units of cargo.

i was wondering, wat happend when u fly of the edge of ur nav map?

and illegal smuggling can be fun, buy cheap cardamine from malta then smuggle to manhattan, make sure u don get scanned by the cops or ur dead cause u have to drop all ur cargo...but what the heck, liberty cops suck, they can't even kill rogues ***/
