how do you become a smuggler?

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

how do you become a smuggler?

So how do you become a smuggler-- what can you smuggle and where do you get it?

Also, how do you do it, I get scanned, seemingly, ever single time I dock at a place? How would you ever smuggle stuff?

What made you think that smuggling was easy? Alien Artifacts and Cardamine are the illegal items, cheap to but in the border worlds and lots of profits selling in the main worlds. Danger is proportional to the profit here...
Equip your ship well and try to get on good/neutral terms with the criminals...
good luck

Try buying 275 units of Artifacts from Freeport 9 and flying all the way back to Planet Manhattan. Now thats some firefights! Well, that's how I do it anyway.

Or you could use one of my favorite trade routes:

Start at Planet Manhattan and buy 250/275 units (assuming that you have a Humpback or Dromedary) of Luxury Consumer Goods. Then go all the way up to Hokkiado and around C5 there should be a GC base, Ainu or something. Sell the Luxury Goods and fill up on Cardamine. Go all the way back to Manhattan and sell the Cardamine, repeat as much as possible. NOTE: It's good to have no enemies when you are doing this, you will encounter Rogues, Hackers, and Dragons, etc. All the possible enemies you can think of.
