How do I beat Hovis In A race?
If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

hmmm, it's a little late since the last post, but i hope that someone will read it
I am a new FreeLancer player. i found that game a week ago and start playing.
so i have a problem with that mission
I start my cruise engine and start racing. Then in some time my cruise engine just stop and immediately starts to recharge. Without hit, just stop in front of some ring. it is every time different ring. I tried with different ships but it was the same every time. Sometimes it happens only once in the race, but sometimes it happens 3-4 times and it is impossible to win. The time to recharge is killing me. Do i made somiething wrong or it is a bug in the game

I thought I'd seen it all...then I saw a thread get double-necro'd...in the wrong forum. That's gotta be a new record or something.
Heya mods, time for a little teleporty-zappity-relocation? *wink wink nudge nudge grin grin*
Anyway, same advice as always: Never use GoTo, always use mouse flight. Turn down the graphics settings to get quicker responses from your controls (it works, really!), stay on the INSIDE of any turn (Hovis stays to the middle, you can cut inside him easily a few rings in) and if you're really, REALLY stuck, bust out a light fighter on that bad boy.
What can also be helpful is to bind cruise mode to a single key- instead of the Shift-W combo that it is set to by default. I like to bind toggle functions to the toggle keys- capslock, scroll lock, num lock, etc...no reason other than that I like to see a light come on when my ship does something cool. But a single key shaves a good half-second off that cruise startup time.

For the last time...there is no "N" in "TURRET"!

I never lost at this... I've beaten the game 6 times and never had any trouble at all! If you really need it, buy the Cavalier LF at the Hood where you start the race. I bought a Clylesdale just to race with to see if I could, and I still never saw him. What you need to do is to wait until you see the info box telling you the rules etc.... And as soon as it's gone, repeatedly hit Shift+W to go to cruise. If you do it quick enough he'll be left about 50M behind you. As soon as it starts charging, hit space to activate mouse flight. Now do the entire race in one smooth turn. Don't ever fly in a straight line, don't cut corners, and just keep a cool head.
I didn't do too much to beat him, i basically put my cruise engines on (i used a heavy thruster on a cavalier) and just flew fast i never saw except for when he is front of u at the begining, If ur really stuck hit him with a cruise disruptor at the begining before u engage cruise mode, or if ur feeling cheeky when your far ahead stop and drop some mines when he comes near then fly fast!
