Tegaki''s Fortress

I need help! Spent the last three hours trying to destroy Tagaki's Generators with Slingshot Missles and firepower from under the base. I destroy one generator, maybe two, and then get blasted out of the air. As I am a 58 year old. ex-Naval Aviator, my head is hanging low.

I've tried the mission with my Heavy Fighter and with the Hawk. No deal. What weapon do I need to wipe out those generators?

Forever Gratefull, Saticoy

that's a hard one. try to stay as close to the shield as possable and keep the generators between you and the battleship as mutch as you can. that way the battleship might do some of the work for you.

If I had a nickel for every time someone told me that my idea of building a giant robotic parrot out of melted down coins was a bad idea, I would have one kick a$$ giant robotic parrot.

You could change the value in one of the files ina certain game directory... if you look for a value listed as "DIFFICULTY_SCALE" and change it to something lower than it currently is (but not too low)... that might make it easier... don't know if that's what you want... You might consider that to be a cheat... but I totally understand how hard that mission is... it took me more than a few tries to get through it, I think I just got lucky one time and finally got through... make sure if you do use that method that you change it back or it will be easier throughout the rest of the game...

The file should be in this directory...

C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name Here\My Documents\My Games\Freelancer

and look for the file called PerfOptions...

Listen to Hairfarmer. Keep the battleship between you and the generators so they can help knock them out while they are trying to get you. If your LUCKY, you'll make it through this one. Took me more times than I care to discuss.

Starkiller torpedoes are pretty useful against stationary targets too, although I suggest assigning them to a different key than Shift-Q (I personally have them on "3" , which is a lot easier to reach).

I recommend taking out the battleship first...there is a rather huge blind spot on all Kusari battleships, and as an added bonus, that spot keeps you pretty well covered from outside shots too. I'll leave you the challenge of finding it. Once you've found the blind spot, you can pretty much just sit there and blast the battleship away to kingdom come. Keep your eyes open, though, just in the off-chance that an enemy fighter comes right into the blind spot looking for you.

The generators are pretty easy to take out after the battleship is gone.

You don't need to take down the battleship. it can barely hit anything anyway.

I used a Hawk, with Starkiller torps, advanced thruster, and the best shield available from Kyoto. My guns were advanced skyrails left over from Bretonia which I never bothered replacing.

I did a series of head-on runs towards each generator beginning at 1500m out and firing torps and guns all the way down to about 200m(at which point the visual slowdown got too bad and I pulled up to avoid crashing). Then I turboed out to 1500, and made a similar run on the next generator. I continued this pattern until the generators went down. In the end, I used a ton of shield batteries but used no nanos at all. The biggest expense was the 30-someodd torps I burned through.

Yeah this mission tends to be a bit difficult. I was flying around for a few minutes before i finally was able to find the generators. All i did was fly really close to the generators and blasted the hell out of them. I also launched a missle or two just to speed up the process. They do take a little bit of time to blow up, so just be patient.

Agreed...I found personally that it made my life much easier...your mileage (and others) may vary. But read on for more comments.

Using my strategy, I ended up not using ANY shield batts after the battleship was destroyed....though I did use a bit while getting to the battleship itself because I sidetracked and destroyed 3 enemy fighters.

However, I did use quite a few torpedoes on the battleship.

Hmm... I did it first try by just Afterbruning in, firing 3 torpedoes, laying into the generator with gunfire, turn around, afterburn away, and repeat as desired, and never had to use batts or nanobots, or even had to take down a capital ship...

I used batteries rather than running the risk of losing shield power alltogether...I got intimately involved with a few enemy fighters before docking with the fort, so that's probably why I burned so many. Next time I'll probably try killing the Bship just for the hell of it.

Well, the easiest way with that damm fortres is to fly trough the reactor from the other side, yes it is Radioactive, but it is protecting you from most of the fire from the Battleship. I used my Draken & Angilito and it went pretty easy, like shooting ducks, I only had to use a set of Nanobots.

Look at the size of this thing......but Elite was Bigger on my C64 & A500....sniff sniff

Thanks to everyone for the advice on this mission! I kept getting wasted by the battleship and Tekagi's forces over and over to the point where I was about to deinstall the game and send it back! Very frustrating. So after reading some of the posts on this mission I backed off to the point where Juni, Uzo and Trent split up and Trent is told to "Take some missions." I then spent a few hours touring the galaxy and made my way back to Cali where I bought a Draumadery(sp?). Yep, I took Tekagi's base in a big ole honking freighter, loaded with the best turrets and guns I could find.

before anyone else beats me to it, I'd like to point out that I'm a moron! I said I was using a Hawk with Starkillers, but the Hawk can only mount Cruise Disrupters! I got my last mission and Tegaki confuzzled a bit.

Is it some law that AI's actively try to steal Bship kills from you? I played through Tegaki up to rescue president yesterday, and killed every Bship I could-or so I thought. The kusari one in Tegaki, and all 4 Rhineland ones(2 in sigma 13, 1 at the Nomad Shipyard, and 1 when the Osiris shows up first), plus 2 Cruisers...and each and every one got finished off by an AI. I almost got a Liberty cruiser, but then Juni failed my mission for not docking in time. :/
