Is Earth actually destroyed?

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Is Earth actually destroyed?

Now, I don't know if the US version is different, but according to the Uk version, the Nomads were discovered by the Rhinelanders a few months before Freelancer, and the Order rose from that. Nothing about Earth is mentioned, and the intro doesn't show the Nomads blowing up Earth. So, was Earth actually destroyed?

who the hell is the order

i found them going through an unknown jumphole at Omicron Gamma at F2

the order seems to be a mix of space monkeys and robots

Sounds like you haven't played the SP, MLange. I don't know what the official word is on Sol being destroyed, but from what I can tell it wasn't (since they specifically took that part out of the original intro)

Where can I find the original into? Is there a link I haven't seen?

Yeah, the original intro included a bit where, I believe, the Sun went Supernova (maybe it just turned into a red giant, I don't remember) and destroyed all planets except for Pluto. However, as bb said, they cut that intro, so who knows whether the Earth is there or not. If the Earth was destroyed, though, then everyone on Pluto is screwed. Without the sun, my money is on them dying real fast, especially if the Coalition fleet around Pluto survived to any degree.

Good question.

The original intro had Sol and our home solar system being destroyed. The Devs cut that intro out. Obviously, since it was cut out, we are to assume that Earth and the Coalition are still there. I bet they are just leaving their options open. I bet, if they make a Freelancer 2 or Starlancer 2, it will have something to do with a Coalition invasion of Sirius! =)

IMO if it was cut out of the intro for the final release then it never officially happened. The sleepers could have been drifting for thousands of years before they arrived in Sirius so maybe they destroyed themselves, maybe not.

I would have to agree that I think Sol still stands, but there's nothing in the final version of FL to suggest either side being right. Nowehere does it say "Sol went boom" and nowhere does it say "Sol still stands".

Except that one line at the end of the intro, "...and we will never forget."

Post Mon Apr 14, 2003 6:53 am

I took the "we will never forget" part to mean that the Sirians would never forget where they came from - that they originated from Sol, from Earth.

Post Mon Apr 14, 2003 7:26 am

I thought it meant they would never forget what the war did to them, dividing them up and forcing them to launch the ships in hopes of preserving humanity and such...

The sun is not big enough to turn into a Supernova ;-)
A Nova yes, me picky?

its kind of they had been banished away from sol. Maybe one they they will take revenge of it. U know, revenge is sweet...and maybe its another adventure.

The original Intro (which can be downloaded from this site) shows an enourmous battleship fire an energy weapon into the sun causing it to instantly supernova. The Nomad ship re-cloaks and ports out while the resulting explosion destroys everything but pluto.

One man escapes from pluto and makes his way to the Sirus sector to inform the new colonies what happened

And this is when that line comes to pass.
