anyone else think the level system is retarded?

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

I'm very pissed off at the level status system right now, no matter how much money I make, if I spend any (eg. buy new ship/gun) I gotta remaked that money

the whole thing is based on the amount of liquid cash you have. so to properly advance to the next level, you have to hold off upgrading your ship

what it SHOULD BE is based on money/ship status AND kills, so if I spend $120K on that nifty SkyBlast B turret, I SHOULD NOT have to make do another 10 missions again!

Dude, where's my Super Star Destroyer?

I don't think it's based on liquid cash, but on net worth. And when computing net worth, it uses resale value of your equipment, not purchase price. So that 120,000 credit gun only counts like 20,000 toward your value. And it would be nice if there were some sort of experience aspect to the level system, but then traders wouldn't be able to level up. Maybe they could let you level based on your worth and experience combined, so if all you did was fight you could level up based on kills, and if all you did was trade you could level up based on money. And if you do both, you would level up based on both together.

true, but the sell price/buy price difference is pretty bs, about $100K even in mint condition!

so even if you do get the best ship and weapons, your worth is only a fraction of the money you spent on it

very very annoying

Yeah, there is quite a difference in price/resale. But I suppose it would be a pain for the dev's to make it varaible based on how long you've had the gun.

They just want to make sure you have some reason to keep playing the game, and the only way they could get us to do that is by making us need to earn more money. It's not like there's any other reason to keep playing once you've done everything else.

(Which I haven't, btw, I'm just saying that once you've explored everywhere and got your VHF w/Nomad guns or whatever you choose, there isn't much left, and I'm not looking forward to that day)

At first I thought it was wierd that the leveling system is based on your net worth. But then again... Micosoft had a part in this game, so I can inderstand how they would think that money = power.

If I had a nickel for every time someone told me that my idea of building a giant robotic parrot out of melted down coins was a bad idea, I would have one kick a$$ giant robotic parrot.

Well, what are levels good for other than controlling what ships you can buy? It seems the whole notion of "level" is only meaningful in SP; because without the mission requirement for levelling, you could suspend the storyline and go off to earn enough money to buy high-level ships, and then the story missions would become too easy. In MP, your level is determined only by your worth; and doesn't the amount of money you have control what kind of ship you can buy, anyway?
