GMG - Overlooked strength..

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Oh for Pete's sake.

Oder Shipyard description:

"... In the past, the majority of the Rheinland Navy was constructed within its massive bays, but after the destruction of the Navy during the 80-Year War and the economic collapse that followed... "

Bundschuh Base new bulletin:

"Is the GMG in control of Sigma-13?
... The Rheinland Military is forbidden to enter the system according to the rules laid out in the treaty that ended in the 80-Years War..."

Hardly conclusive stuff, but you get the drift. That's all I could find in a short amount of time, unfortunately. So, do you have anything concrete to offer in return or are you just going to rely on that "reperations"[sic hearsay as your only argument?

Just look at the info for the Yanagi Debris Field in Sigma-13. It explains how the GMG ambushed and defeated the Rheinland Navy. Rheinland, its Navy disgraced and left with only one operational battleship, pretty much had to negotiate a peace with the GMG. And the only "reparation" I've seen any mention of in the game is where the GMG allowed ALG to contract the Junkers to salvage the debris from the battle field in Sigma-13, and then return it to Rheinland for re-smelting. Talk about disgrace: needing to make money by recycling scrap metal from your own destroyed ships!

Dammit, for some reason I lost the save game where I docked with Yanagi Depot.

LOL! I hadn't thought of it like that, ut it *is* pretty disgraceful having to live off scavenging your own wrecked fleet.

It's better to burn out than to fade away

It's also interesting that a good part of Rheinland's mineral wealth is in peril from the Corsairs... if the news reports on the Corsair bases about "The Road to Rheinland, parts 1, 2, & 3" are more than just a pie-in-the-sky idea. In a nutshell, the Corsairs plan to wipe out the Junkers in Sigma-13 (pretty easy for them), and then invade Frankfurt and Dresden, exploiting the weakened condition of the Rheinland fleet. They also want Dresden because of their long conflict with the Hessians, whom they plan to wipe out. They will then have taken the diamond resources in Omega-11 and Dresden away from Rheinland for themselves. Also mentioned is a deal with the Hogosha involving an exclusive trade concession for alien artifacts in exchange for non-interference from the Kusari; but, I have to wonder if the GMG, who have no love for either Rheinland or the Corsairs, can be manipulated by the Hogosha to sit idly by while all this is going on...

Do they actually say they were planning on invading Rheinland? I always thought they meant to bypass Rheinland systems and just attack the Hessians from the rear. After all, while the Rheinland fleet did get wiped out in the 80-Year War, it's obviously been rebuilt, enough so, that it could challenge both Kusari and Liberty during the SP campaign. Besides, no matter how weak Rheinland's fleet is, you're talking about a group of fighters conquering an entire navy in their own systems. How would you even maintan control of bases? Or how would you repair/rearm if you don't?

Hehe, that just means it was a piece treaty. Neither side won. And the gmg had to pay a reperation tax! lol. If they had surely defeted rhinland then they would have made them pay.

It most definitely is a ballsy plan; and there is much in it that isn't made clear; but it does use language like "once Frankfurt falls". And they say they expect minimal resistance from the Rheinland police forces -- no mention of the Navy at all; as it's really not an issue for them, I guess. The plan calls for establishing a base of operation in Frankfurt before they head into Dresden, so maybe a base is all their "occupation" would amount to... but that doesn't really fit with the concept of the system "falling". What the Corsairs plan to do after the Hessians are defeated isn't specifically stated; but with lines of support coming from Omega-11 into Dresden, and Sigma-13 into Frankfurt, it certainly seems possible that they would try to hold onto those systems, or at least extend their forces into them in a big way.

However, I have to wonder about the source of the information. These aren't intercepted military communiques or something like that. The Corsairs are allowing anyone hanging out in the bar on one of their bases to read these news items. Maybe it's just propaganda, or some kind of disinformation strategy, distracting their enemies from their real intentions...

Well, in the end, it's still just a bunch of wild ideas created by the devs to make the news bulletin more interesting to read. So it doesn't have to make perfect sense.

If they actually went through with that plan, Crete would most likely fall to the Outcasts and Bounty Hunters IMO; so yes, it's probably just propaganda , or they'll atleast need a few more years to be ready for it.

What guns to the outcasts use? When im at omicron beta the outcasts hit me with these guns that are like the Deaths Hand MkII on the Anubius...Now THOSE are powerful!

IIRC, part of the Corsairs' bargain with the Hogosha was that they would hold off the Outcasts while the Corsairs concentrate on the Hessians, Junkers, and Rheinland. As for the Bounty Hunter, well... they're Bounty Hunter. Even if they could take on entire planets and stations, they wouldn't kill off their number one source of income.

Wow Spaz, you really havent played much of freelancer have you? The best gun you can get is the Diamondback or Cereberus. The outcasts use Wyrms and Pyroses

If you actually watch battles between Corsairs and other people, you'll generally see the Corsairs take on 2-3x their number....and win. The only time when this isn't true is when the Corsairs either try to 1) kill a base, or 2) kill you. In both circumstances, the outcome is usually unfavorable to them. If the Corsairs left a 3-fighter garrison of Titans at Crete, I would bet on them against anything short of the full Rheinland Navy, and even then, I would think twice before betting against the Corsairs.

I mean, the Bounty Hunters ships tend to suck - you can slice through wave after wave of 8-10 ships with ease, where trying the same trick against the Corsairs usually results in some SERIOUS nanobot action if not complete destruction. The GMG, while they're decent against humans, also suck. The AI is simply not designed for computer-to-computer battles, it's designed to kill common human tactics. Running the AI against itself, you usually end with the losing side being the one with crappier equipment, regardless of numbers. In this case, the Corsairs stuff is simply better than the GMG's, so, in theory, any number of Corsairs will always beat any number of GMG.

You must not have tried the missions to kill BH's from Crete. Get a lvl 42 and it's DAMN hard

As far as the Corsairs winning any battle, I really think there's a limit to that. I'm sure if a whole bunch of GMG Eagles came in on 3 Corsairs they could win.
