Help me! I''m stuck with the racing mission

So, I've tried to follow the main story and now I'm stuck with not so good ship in the middle of a cosmic race, with guy, which ship is pretty fast. I'm sure you guess which mission I mean. Well, is there a way to go back ( without loading previous game ), ot way to beat him? He's really fast! =(
Please, if there is someone who can help me, just leave me a message here, so I'll try to beat him.

Thanks in advance!

P.S. There's something more: give me a hint - is it better to follow the story or it's better to make my own game .. like pirate, merchant .. whatever?

just hit cruise engines and cut corners as close to edge in the rings as you can, very easy mission

There's about 8,000 other threads on this subject, but I'll condense them for you...

-Get something better than a freighter

-Don't use the Go To (F2), use the manual cruise function (Shift+W) and mouse mode

-Don't get upset if you're behind, Hovis will screw up, and you'll have a chance to pass him up in the end

Hey, does this course exist in MP (I'm a lowbie on all the MP servers I go to) cuz it would be nice to race and bet and stuff.

It's there, but it's just that... There. Can't bet or do races.

Hello again! Thanks to all the people, which are replyed to my question. But there is something more. I don't like cheating - it's too easy and "The thrill is gone.." then. =) And there is something more. I've tried this mission about 50 times but the guy never misses the gate. =( And my ship is too slow. I don't use GoTo or something. I use only Shift+W and mouse fly. And I can't still beat him. I want to know if there is a way to reject this mission and back to it when I have better (faster) ship. I have a saved game 1 or 2 missions back so maybe I must go trough them again. But what if I reject the mission from Juni? Would I be able to accept it later? Please, help me with this. The game is veri interesting, altough I don't like games. =) Maybe because I loved Privateer and this is something like .. new version of it.

P.S. I want to apologize for my english, it's not good enough. I hope that you understand more than 75% of my writings. =)
