All over the place rep wise.

I've just entered Kusari Space. After lvl 6. (I found the race quite easy, use strafe my friends, use strafe!) I worked for the Sheffield Bounty Hunters because I wanted to become a Bounty Hunter, (excellent strategy). After the next story line I found I was hated by them. I tried to get back into the swing all things bounty hunter, but Iended up getting killed by large amounts of bounty hunters of all people. Needless to say my adopted home Sheffield was hostile to me. So I did a few odd jobs and progressed, only to encounter a different set of factions.

I assume it's not worth persuing one proffession or ally, as your rep constantly changes, or they disappear altogether through story progression and distance?

Yeah, your rep will constantly get a thrashing no matter what you do... so expect before you take a mission that if you have to build up some $$$ that when you are ready to take that mission that those people will not be friendly with you after that next one, or a few after that...

Being hostile to even ONE of your friendly faction's allies (i.e. being the enemy of your friend's friend) along with that enemy of yours showing up in the same region where your friend can see you, will make them ALL hate you. Perhaps this is the case?
