level 10 guns and the lack of level 10 mounts

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

1) The Kraken Type 2 particle guns do significantly more damage than the Wyrm Type 2 tachyon guns, and they do it with better efficiency.

2) The Wyrm Type 2 and Kraken Type 2 have a projectile speed of 700m/s, while all c10 guns, including Nomad guns, have a projectile speed of 600m/s.

While you are matching refire rate with the Wyrm Type 2 and Nomad Cannons, you are not matching projectile speeds, and the targetting system will be thrown off. The effect of mismatched projectile speeds is that head-on shots will usually all hit the target, but angled shots (more to the side) will often result in the slower projectiles missing the target; and your slower projectiles, the c10 weapons, do the big damage! This is why Salamanca Mk II neutron guns, with a projectile speed of 600m/s, are a more effective choice of c9 guns to pair with c10 guns on a VHF, even though they don't pump out damage as fast as some of the others.

This is very true! But for you to solve this problem, you need to lose the turret too, since that has a 700 m/s speed as well. I use 4 cl10 guns, and either 2 salamancas or one sal and one TDC for dropping big shields quick. I've found that I don't miss the damage much (I can still kill a hull in 2 shots) and it cuts down those 10,000 point shields a lot faster.

noelho: Damage/shot is irrelevant. The only advantage the salvaged weapons have is when you only get one shot. Since the rate of fire on a nomad blaster is 4.00 though, the only time this would happen is if the window of opportunity to fire is less than 0.25 seconds, which simply does not happen. True, it's entire up to the player what weapons layout to use, but you know from my previous posts this isn't what I mean.

Kergen: I think you're confusing projectile speed with refire rate. The blasters and cannons have the same speed, just different rate.

Corwin02: Projectile speed inconsistency aside, I don't believe it's really worth trading in the TZs for anything. Although it does bring up something I've been wondering about: How significant is the projectile speed difference to targetting? I mean, even at a maximum range of 700m, the difference between the Wyrm II and the Nomads would only be 100m or 1/6 of a second (600 m/s vs 700 m/s).

hey ran,

no no i messed up on my matchings. i thought that krakens and wyrms matched perfectly with cannons in their speed and rate. they dont (rate only). sorry. on my setup i use blasters which go with salas and cids. is there a c9 weap that matches with cannons perfectly?

btw i tried the one sala and one cid setup w/ the blasters, works great!! better than no cids and better than no salas, best of both worlds!! thx bbrock!
