How to escape Planet Manhattan

Can't seem to get to the shipping lane in time, if i try to go staight for it, it won't let me dock...any suggestions?

Umm...did Walker and his Cruisers show up yet to destroy the enemy cruisers? Until then I just cruised around dodging enemy fire (It seems the Liberty Navy is without Cruise Disrupters!) then I lined myself up perfectly with the trade lane and hit dock when I had 0 distance to it.
