hI all,

well I've tried with all sorts of ships, tracered into rings, even blown up all the wepons platforms too, played with mouse sensitivity and it looks like I must be one bad pilot cos I keep getting done and haven't won the race...

Now I've done well up to now and I really don't wanna jack this game cos I can't get to the professor, anyone wanna help, the only thing I can think of is a saved game from a finished race, I hate even to ask this, I've seen the trainer, the difficulty thing to change and haven't got involved, I "in now way" want to cheat the game but I would like to get this part done...

have you tried changing to cockpit view? Its really hard to do precise views in 3rd person, unless you have 3d glasses or something

YIPPEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Done him at last, even missed a gate and had to swing back and do it again, sure enough Hovis slowed down and I got passed, only thing was I had to use the autosave and lost my big gunned ship, will ave to see what I can pick up on route now...

Congratulations!

I found it easier to beat him in a LF than a HF (or even FR). Some say they have won this race in a Dromedary! I'd go for a cavalier. As has been said it's all about keeping your cool and let Hovis make his mistake. You can even afford to miss a single gate (once, circle and get it quick) and still win.

Thanks to all who explained to my dumb backside the difference between goto and cruise. I spent 3 extremely frustrating hours trying to beat that ****, watching the unskippable movie, and composing vitriolic screeds to Microsoft. Then I found this forum, mapped cruise to F12, and beat him 2nd time with a Crusader. To me this was an UN-spoiler, I was just about to throw the whole thing in the trash.

I have beaten him with my old Rhino i still had at this time. I have beaten him with the second try. First time i attacked the Weapon platforms at the end of the race ;-D pretty stupid eh?
