Are the Americans the only ones with those sweet Cannons?

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Are the Americans the only ones with those sweet Cannons?

I have not finished the SP game yet...I was curious if any of the other houses had those cool main battle cannons the Liberty Battleships mount?

Those things look sweet. I wish we could see them in the MP game...maybe have scripted Ai battles or somthing...

Sorry if this is more than a little off topic, but I noticed that the different houses' fighters/ capital ships seem to be very off-balance. For example, Liberty has the weakest Heavy Fighter in the game; yet the story makes it seem that the Liberty Navy could use those weak defenders to fight off, say, the Rheinland Valkyries. And the Valkyries happen to be the best house owned fighters in the game. Technically, Liberty could be easily over-powered by Bretonia's technological advantage. Bretonia could be overpowered by Kusari; and Kusari could be crushed by Rheinland, but there is no indication of this. If I tried to fight a (player controlled) Valk with a defender, I know I would have some trouble.....I just thought it was strange..

maybe they rely on skill i mean much of this game seems history based like germany has mass numbers and tech but little skills and america has plenty of skill but less tech...and the british and french mixed (j/k to the british here)

Then the sheep said...

It's a RPG, people (well, the levelling part anyways), it's not supposed to make sense. If all factions had equal strength, you'd be stuck with the same ship from beginning to the end. Same goes for the Liberty BCs with main cannons, it's just to drive the game. My motto when I play RPGish game: Don't think about it too much.

If Liberty is the only one with those massive cannons, it would explain a lot.

Liberty are the strongest house because theres a lot of them. In a single ship to ship battle they'd lose because Liberty ships are inferior, however they are saved as they are many in number, thats why the yanks are seen a the dominant house.

Liberty has the most power for one reason...... they made the trade lanes, docking rings snd jumpgates.

I think they all have the cannons but im not sure

Who reads these any way

Yes, I know that the game would progress akwardly if the houses' ships were equal in strength. But if the fact is that Liberty has more ships, the game should act like it does. When I'm in Rheinland space, I see just s much military/police ships as in Liberty. Still, this is yet another minor complaint which i shouldn't have brought up : /

Have you all read the storyline? Liberty showed up first because some say they launched earlier than the other ships. This is why they are the "dominant power," though many of the houses feel that this dominance is ill deserved.

The power of literacy....sheesh.

They do have a nice front cannon, but seem to lack the total coverage the other house battleships seem to have. The easiest heavy cruiser/battle ship to take down for me was the kusari, they have back tail fins that also protect you from incomming fire when you sit between them. hehe.

As to the "who got there first", if memory holds, and I know the intro movie supports it, all the ships launched at the same time, but the Liberty had its flight path altered, or visa/versa. End result was Liberty got there much earlier.

Anyway, apparently if you want to see some great battleships, you just need to find a way to get the corsairs/outcasts to build one. IF the fighters are any comparison, a corsair/outcast battleship would smoke a planet.

Almost forgot, yes, the Liberty battleships/heavy cruisers are the only ones with a front cannon like that.

Where are you guys getting all the history from? I dont remember seeing anything about an altered course in the intro...

Post Mon Apr 07, 2003 5:05 pm

Ok, got it. Now is stranger that I am seeing it. In the intro movie all 5 ships launch at same time and punch through the blockade. On the official websight under Liberty system, it says the Liberty launched early against the wishes of the great planners to allow themselves first pickings of the new system.

The ships did NOT launch at the same time.

The official site says:

Five great ships launched during the Exodus, each protecting precious human cargo deep within their metal wombs. They fled for the stars, away from the final spasm of war that swallowed their first home in fire and then in blackness. Somewhere out there they would make a new home. They would begin again. This time...this time they would not repeat the mistakes that had been made before.

Five great ships. One was lost en route. The names of the other four now are legend: Kusari, Rheinland, Bretonia, and Liberty....

Pre-Settlement

In the tumult of the Exodus, The Liberty launched before the other great sleeper ships. Colonists whisper, even today, that the launch date may have been intentionally moved forward against the explicit wishes of the Great Planners. Early launch would have guaranteed the Liberty free access to the worlds of the Sirius Sector before the other sleeper ships arrived, but all proof of such a betrayal of trust was lost along with Earth. Even if the Liberty did launch early, there is little that can be done about it now...but there remains a lingering feeling of resentment among the other houses: a vague feeling that, somehow, Liberty does not entirely deserve the position of superiority it enjoys eight centuries later.

When the Liberty first arrived in the Sirius Sector they found an area rich in resources but lacking in habitable planets. With a hundred systems at their fingertips, they settled on those near the center of Sirius where the highest number of main sequence stars and Earth-like planets existed and a fair number of resources could be easily obtained. Eventually they made planetfall on Manhattan, in the system they christened New York. They began the difficult task of rebuilding civilization two full years before any other sleeper ship arrived.

In the info that ferror posted, it says "but all proof of such a betrayal of trust was lost along with earth". even though this is from the official sight, it suggests that Earth was lost (or destroyed). I know its fairly obvious, just adds to the dilemma of what really happened in the Sol system, or whether this just means they had to leave earth behind.

Just my thought!
