How do i beat Hovis in the race?

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

@convenienthappenings

Dude.

Knock that kind of garbage off.

Some people DO have problems with this mission for one reason or another.

The more comments people make like that...the more frustrating it becomes for the people that are having problems....

If you can't beat Hovis the first 2 times you race, check your ship. If it is a "Very Heavy Fighter" or "Frieghter" class ship, (or something of the sort) load your autosave when you loose to Hovis for the second time, go to the ship dealer on the Hood and buy the ship he has. Outfit it as you see fit, you won't have time to re-equip the weapons. Race Hovis again, you should win. I hope this helps

Hey... is it possible to do the race in multiplayer?
Because if it is possible, it would be a great way to test your piloting skills against others... well, sorta.

Thanks

Umm... what?

Alot of people say that you need a fighter for this one. but I have a problem over-shooting on this one. so a fraighter might make it easier due to its slow turns. Never tried it though...But This is a hard one. I use a track ball and for those who also use one I'm sure you know it makes things alittle difficult. My only sugestion for this one is to count the rings as you go through them and keep track of which number gives you problems. Thats what I did and it seemed to work.

“This mission was so easy” not real sure why so many people think that is a good answer. Guess it just makes them feel better about themselves. Anyway…

I don't think thats the issue. Some people(such as myself) found it so easy they can't understand how it could be difficult. When I did this mission I pressed shift-w and was in the lead the entire time. I'm not insulting the people who have trouble with it, but I really can't understand why its difficult. I think I'll get a friend to try the mission later to see how they play it, since theres obviously different playing styles that can affect whether you win or lose.

EDIT: I played it again, perhaps I wasn't in first the whole time, this time it took me just over the halfway mark to get in the lead. It still wasn't very hard, just don't swerve everywhere like hovis does, be as efficient as possible when turning, hovis sweves everywhere, especially near the end

Since i never liked the mouse thing, which in turn made the game flight model to be ARCADE, i tried my mouse to be less sensitive. I manage to win finally.
I was just behind him until four or five rings before the end. He made a sudden stop for couple of secs. And that it's. I went front of him.
Something else here. When i was behind Hovis, before he "stops", my hud went red. Everybody seemed to shoot at me.

I don't want to go again to mouse versus joystick argument. It is over now.

Yep, incase you didn't hear in all the commotion Hovis tells his men to open fire to give you something to think about it but your close to the end so you can easily finish off the race if you made it that far then they stop firing. For me I messed up bad the first time and loaded a save cuz i missed a ring completely (I wish I took a screen shot of me way off course) But the second time I got my cruise engines online first and Hovis bumped into me from behind, I was pushed forward and he was pushed back and I retained my lead the whole time, if you still have trouble with this mission and want to get past it perhaps try getting your engines on first and going infront of Hovis.

Just to let you all know that I did finally make it through to the end of the race. I did it by (1) turining off the sound so that it wasn't a distraction and (2) by reducing my mouse sensitivity to about 30%. Thank you for these suggestions.
