How do i beat Hovis in the race?

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

How do i beat Hovis in the race?

seriously, how do i beat Hovis in the race, so I can get him to spill everything about Quentaine. I tried winning the race for about 2 hours last night, 2 FREAKING HOURS!!!! So any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Michael.

PS: I would ask my brother but he probably laugh at me and tell me to work it out.

thanks, just a couple more questions.

1) does it matter what ship I have??

2) Will the cruise control (Shift-W) work on this missions?

Tried the thruster, only makes me loose,

I don't see how people lose this race...

Unless you are in a ****ing Humpback or Dromedary, you can't go wrong. Look ahead, Cruise and cut close to ring edges. I did this in one of the Bretonian fighters, I believe the Crusader (heavy) and smoked him the whole way. Just be ready at the end for the cruise disrup, drop 5 CMs and you're fine.

That's odd, he never used cruise disruptors on me. I trailed him until about half-way, then he missed a gate and I took the lead, and the shields held when he activated his weapon platforms.

I just used the cruise engines and the Crusader Heavy fighter.
I finished it on my first try.
About half way through he bumped me and it made him miss one of the rings ( I was cutting close to the edge of the ring when he hit me)
Then he told the weap. platforms to "teach me a lesson" but they never seemed to hit me with any cruise disruptors.

I would suggest keeping an eye on the position of the next ring and cutting wide if the next ring is close to or perpendicular to the ring you are going through.

Good luck

Well I got the "Incoming Missle" verbal and visual messages - but I was 5 rings ahead of him, so maybe the level of retaliation is based on your lead. /shrug

Yah, i dont know whats so hard. Get a fighter (light, heavy, doesnt really matter)as soon as he says go, just press shift-w and cruise through the rings. Not that hard... I dont recommend afterburners, cruise engines are the way to go...

*I hate my old signature, so I changed it...to this*

I don't know how all of you managed to go through the rings, but i can't with the mouse. Anyway i give a try once more following your guides

lol i got a dromedary and i dont wanna sell it! what shall i do?

Youre probably gonna have some problems from that point on if you keep the frieghter. Basically the rest of the SP campaign requires a good fighter.
My advice would be to make as much money as you' can and then unload it for a good fighter.

Well I guess that I am in the same boat as some of the people here. I tried for a good 1.5 hrs and still never got the better of him. I can get through the first half of the course but then I seem to loose perspective and get off course, especially if I try and cut too close to a ring and hit it. I am 50+ so my reflexes may not be as good as some of the guys and gals here. So to this end I would appreciate a save gave from after the race. Thanks in advanve.

One thing to remember when flying around the course is to use your strafe keys. That should help you get through some of the rings more easily. Other than that, just make sure you hit cruise as soon as you can.

I don't get what's so tough about the race either. I did it in a Clydesdale Freighter and beat it the first time, so the type of ship you have obviously doesn't matter. As long as you don't screw up, Hovis WILL and you'll pull ahead of him at that point.

Easiest mission in the game.

XYZZY

“This mission was so easy” not real sure why so many people think that is a good answer. Guess it just makes them feel better about themselves. Anyway…

The Ctrl-W to cruise is the answer. I tried and tried without it and once I used it 2 or 3 tries later I finally won. I was in the Barracuda, a heavy fighter. With a lighter one it was much easier.

Just Press after burn to start (tab) and hit ctrl-W as soon as you can. Try not to pass him until the very end. If you do he bumps you and it makes it more difficult not to miss a ring. The platforms will open up on you but just keep at it, they are not very good shots.

Even after figuring out how to do it still took my 45 year old, not playstation II honed reflexes a couple of tries.
