Jump holes register when?

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Jump holes register when?

Hey all,
Just noticed something curious and I thought I'd ask to see if anyone knew how it worked. Okay, so I'm playing the single player game (50 hours in, explored several systems, but only just getting to mission 5 in the story). Anyway...I comb all asteroid fields/nebulas looking for jump holes and wrecked ships. I've found a lot of jump holes, BUT, when I look in my information screen where it lists in-game hours, bases visited, etc., it only displays that I found 4. Sooo...my thoughts are it's one of the following:

1. Jump holes only register if you actually use them once. (Many times I find them but don't use them since I'm just trying to find everything in that system).

2. Jump holes only register if you find all the aperatures of them. In other words, you'd have to find, say, all the jump holes leading to the New York system for it to register.

Anybody have any idea which it is (or how it does this if it's neither of the above)? No bigee - just curious.

Thanks!

could be greatly mistaken but I believe its the former.

the register on map when you come close, but to get them as a jumphole visited one has to jump it....maybe

Jump holes should register should you get close to them. In SP they should anyway, in MP some of them don't register at all

i belive that jump holes register on the map when you get near them

they only shows as jump holes found when you actually jump through them

My experience in SP mirrors that of Mirax. And the count of jump holes found does not appear to depend on the number found in any given system, just on the number actually jumped through.

What I *don't* remember, and unfortunately can't check until this weekend, is whether each transit counts as two jump holes found (i.e., the entry and exit, one each) or whether only the ones you enter are counted and you have to go back through the exit to have that one count. My memory suggests the former, but I can't say for sure right now. Anyone know?

It's better to burn out than to fade away

K. Makes sense. Yeah - they're showing up on the map fine - just not as used. That's okay I guess. There's no bonus gotten from using them all, is there? (IE some sort of easter egg for finding all of them.) I obviously don't want to jump through every one I come across when I'm simply looking for 'em. Thanks for all the responses!
