My life as a Freelancer (after SP)

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

My life as a Freelancer (after SP)

For me the sheer excitment of exploring the unknown has made the game after the SP game an absolute blast. I must have spent 20 hours since the conclusion of the SP missions persuing my mission to find and purchase both the Hammerhead and Titan fighters. I found both yesterday completely on my own (without looking at maps and without reading this forum )

I spent much of the 20 hours running trade routes in a Humpy and taking notes of the profitable routes I found. Once I had enough money I purchased a falcon so I could venture into the outer worlds and survive. I happened into Sigma-17 once with the humpy and met a swift demise at the hand of 7-8 stilettos.

* Here is the spoiler parts *

Spending most of my time in the Omega systems I stumbled upon the Hammerhead first. It was on a neutral base so I had no trouble landing on it. I immediately bought it and proceeded to run a few more trade routes to get some money ready while I explored looking for the Titan.

The cool part was realizing how lucky I was finding the Titan. I entered the Omega systems through Reinland and as a result had to battle a lot of Red Hessiens (sp?). Come to find out that as I did that my rep with the Corsairs improved to neutral. Which was really handy for getting me onto the base that sells the Titan.

At one point I entered Corsair territory with a few Phamacueticals I picked up from a downed fighter. Immediatley upon entering the sector a few Corsairs asked me to drop it. I hastily declined to find out that the Corsairs were flying Titans and there appeared to be 5-6 or them. I was still in my Hammerhead and thought to myself that I'm totally screwed. I didn't think I could survive the fight with the Titans (which were really tough to kill) and furthermore I just ruined my rep with the Corsairs. Fortunately my missle volley (sweepers and catapults) convinced at least one or two of the Titans to flee. Not sure how that happened but I survived and found that I was still neutral with the Corsairs. It seems that fighting off someone that wants my cargo doesn't have much effect on the rep with the rest of the faction.

Anyway, that's my story. This is a surprise hit game for me, I never expected to enjoy it this much.

You really don't get a big rep hit unless you destroy a few ships. If tsome of them ran, that probably kept you from becoming red-hostile.

Now your mission is to get out there and find the Sabre, the true king of ships in Sirius!

Seeing a post like this reminds me why I spent so many hours testing this game. Nice post! It's a breath of fresh air hearing something like this from someone that hasn't let the Freelancer life revolve around the PvP aspect or demanding to be told where everything is. It makes your view of the game completely different doesn't it?

This may not be the main thing that draws people to FL, but there still are a few of us that can really appreciate the exploration value without having to say it's all a waste of time once you have the elite ships.

So few people seem to enjoy the exploration part (without reading spoilers), but this has got to be one of the best things about FL. The feeling one gets when something completely new is discovered, or you have to fight for your life to survive after being ambushed. It just doesn't get much better than that!

Most certainly Stinger. Despite finding both those ships I'm still dying to reenter the world and continue my quest to "go where no [freelancer has gone before"! In fact I stumbed upon a prison last night in a remote part of one sector that did not appear to be a common meeting place when looking at the route maps. It was a nice surprise to find something in an unlikely area of the sector and it got me wondering how many more extremely remote places there are that I've still yet to find. Unfortunately this prison didn't offer mich in the way of new goods or weapons but it was a unigue looking facility with a very intimidating looking mine field around it. Well worth finding none the less.

My future plans will involve toying with the factions to bend my reputation to fit my whim. I can see myself losing countless more hours in this game just dreaming up new things to do and try. Which again was totally unexpected when I first thought about playing this game.

Most certainly. I refuse to enter a spoiler section untill I have been through any game to its end. Its end for me in FL was into every sector I possibly could. Then enter into spoiler area mostly to see what I have missed, but also to help out any who might need it. SOme things I have run across here have made me go back just to see something I might have never seen or tried. I still play FL even though have been through sp line 3 times now. My connection speed is terrible, so mp is out.

All in all , I have quite enjoyed FL, and probably will for a bit to come.

I hate to post a 'me too' message, but here goes.

Soon after completing the SP campaign in my beloved Drake (I still drive the thing, at level 38) I decided to take a really thorough look at a system, just to see how much stuff I could find. Holy Cow! The hidden surprises, concealed bases, and navigational hazzards I discovered left me amazed - it blows my mind that after frequenting this particular system dozens of times there were still wonders waiting to be discovered.

I am delighted that some folks have gone to the considerable trouble of building detailed maps and guides to find some of the more interesting/powerful items in the game; if I get really frustrated at some point in the future, I may take advantage of their generosity. For now, however, I'm much happier to suspend my disbelief, and to see just how far I can journey on my own, if only to see what lies over the horizon. What a great game!
