Balance issues: SP story missions vs. Job board

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Balance issues: SP story missions vs. Job board

It seems to me that there are some serious balance issues in this game. The Single Player Story Missions seem to be extremely hard, at least several of those leading in and out of Britonian space. But the jobs you can get off the job boards in the bars in this timeframe tend to be total cakewalks in comparison. This makes for very frustrating gameplay. The problem with this is that your practice against weak enemies in between the story missions does little to prepare you for the primary battles in the story missions. I just arrived in Kusari space, and the missions once again are a total cakewalk. The GC and Blood Dragons are just too easy to blow away, and I know the next story mission is probably going to be magnitudes harder.

I'm sure one argument for this style is that the Story Missions should be harder. While that makes sense, I don't think they need to be such of a night/day difference in difficulty. I'd prefer if they'd make the story missions a bit easier, the job posting missions a bit harder, or some combination of the two.

One suggestion would be to provide a wider range of job board missions available. Instead of jobs that vary in a small range like 6 to 9, I'd much prefer a much wider range like 3 to 12. Give very small compensation for the 3 mission, and a huge payback on the 12 mission. This way, if you are hurting for money and equipment, you could take some very simple missions to earn a tiny bit of money for your battery'n'bot fund. But someone who is in good shape, and wants a bigger challenge could aim for a much harder mission. It would also be nice if there were other kinds of missions to play (Guard transports, deliver an item to another location, retrieve an item from a far-off base, search for a missing vessel, etc).

From my delvings into missions, The difficulty of the mission is targeted to what sector you are currently in. The main thing that kills missions in the sp is that you cannot get to the areas that would give you the most challenging missions. Take that ole anubis to crete or malta and try a 145K+ mission. They would be using you to "grease their ships" hehe.

An unfortuniate side effect of the sp game. Just have to live through it and then you can take on the 3 waves of 8 hammerheads

But it would've been nice if you could get the higher level missions in bars before the end of SP. It would make it less boring to have to make money for that next level requirement... Oh, well. Tough it out through SP, and then you can have a blast doing the Corsairs' missions.

Yeah, it would be kind of nice if, in theory, you could take really high-level missions, even on Manhattan. Or, at least as high a level as you could get with Liberty Rogues

I totally agree here - I went crazy in the sp missions trying to knock down shields with inadequate weapons. Even when I had the strongest weapons available at that level, sometimes the battles between my ship and an enemy would go on for almost 25 minutes...

hehe, in multiplayer i could go for a difficult 18 mission while being at level 2(!) in the texas system i think.

and fighting xenos in stilettos with just a starflier and 2 crappy weapons and a level 2 shield was surely challenging. and reeeeeeeal fun!

plus i got 12,000 out of this to start my tradeer career.
