Why are my allies starting to hate me?

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Why are my allies starting to hate me?

I was happy as a tick on a hound dog. Everyone was neutral or friendly with the exception of two factions, the Mollies and the Unioners. It made for some stress-free trading. Recently, I switched to a Hammerhead, and went on the attack. I went hunting for the two factions that didn't like me.

The Mollies had plenty of enemies, but no allies. It didn't take long before I was friendly with the Bretonian factions, and able to access their better equipment. I headed to Rheinland and started doing the same with the Unioners. Their only friends (as I recall) are the Bundschuh. They, likewise, have plenty of enemies. I was surprised, however, to see that after a couple of forrays against the Unioners, A LOT of factions were suddenly hostile to me, and others had gone neutral. The Dragons, GC, Hackers, Rogues, etc., didn't seem to like the fact that I was attacking the Unioners - a terrorist outfit. What the heck? Is there an error with the faction system, or something?

Oh yeah, I also have noticed a terrible problem with the Junkers on another account. Supposedly, they're neutral (although barely so anymore,) but everytime I encounter any, whether it's one or three, they're always hostile. They don't even bother with demanding cargo, they're automatically red. What's up with that?

For that matter, why do some accounts start out being allied with certain factions, like the Red Hessians, and others are not. I was surprised when a friend and I were neutral to the Hessians on our first encounter with them, while another friend flying with us was hostile. Are factions relations randomly determined at start-up for each character?

Okay, I'll stop asking questions now.

Well,.. that is one source of info this site does not offer. Seeing as it does with lots of other stuff i hope this too will be added soon...

Which factiondoes what and is allied to which etc etc etc.

I started a topic in the additions to the site section.

Yep, there are some hidden ties within the factions, you might have also noticed, while you were out slaughtering mollies that you IMG faction was taking a hit. IMG went red to me for a bit after a bit of molly hunting. Not sure, but might be something of a cascading faction , ie. big faction hit if allied, to the ppl you are shooting, but smaller if allied to an ally, or something confusing like that, hehe.

The list of "Allies" and "Enemies" in each faction's description is imprecise in most cases, and in others even kind of wrong. It wasn't generated automatically by the game according to whatever settings - someone actually typed all that stuff in. The actual faction ties are more complicated.

For example, take the Zoners. Even though the game tries to convince you otherwise, it will soon become apparent that the Zoners are allied/enemies with certain factions, although it's hard to tell which. And having the Zoners as enemies might not seem a big deal, but if you sit and think about it, they control almost every access point to the Omicron systems. They're in Omega-41, they're in Tau-37, they're in Omicron Theta. And although when you have a Titan/Sabre/Eagle it doesn't really matter, it's still annoying to be jumped by 10 Hawks while you're just trying to get to the next system while taking radiation damage or trying to get through a minefield.

Mabye the different criminal organizations can think: Hmm, if he goes after them, mabye he'll come after us!

I don't think its absolutely certain, but i always thought that it depends on how you are towards other faction's enemies.
You might fire on Mollies to improve standing with house police and navy or house companies. This change in turn affects how Outcasts, Dragons and such see you. If they see you're getting good with some of their enemies they will start to become more and more hostile...even though you're not attacking them.

I know you might ONLY be hunting Mollies thinking its not affecting much since they have no allies BUT you are improving your standing with some factions who hate Mollies WHICH is inadvertantly changing relations with those who hate the guys that hate Mollies....you understand what i'm trying to say?

Its best to avoid Mollies and stay neutral to all if you're already.

Once you're the most powerful person out there, THEN START to choose who you want to hunt down and destroy.
Just my opinion

This, of course, makes it more than a tad difficult to be liked by some unlawful faction (and they all seem to have all the best weapons and ships) while still tolerated by the house police - ANY house police. What gets me is that here I am blasting Red Hessians, whose enemies are most obviously the Rheinland house police (not to mention most everybody else), and yet by attacking the Hessians my standing with Kusari terrorists GC and the Blood Dragons gets worse. As far as I know, they have nothing to do with Rheinland space and aren't even allied with Rheinland terrorists of like values - the Bundschuh.

In fact, GC and the Dragons tend to dislike foreigners in general, according to their little blurbs, and prefer to harrass foreign companies whenever they're not directly attacking Samura. So how would they be affected by this other than a general lawful/unlawful dichotomy? I know that being allied with Rheinland police doesn't really affect my standing with any of the other houses, since they ARE in competition, so what gives?

Because... people can also hate you (dislike you ) if someone they dislike starts to like you too much. Kill lots of Xeno's, to get cozy with (a allready warm) Liberty Navy and the people who dislike the Navy (even though they also hate Xeno's) will start to take a hit on faction.

This is most noticeable when you Bribe/Buy faction at a bar, you'll notice several of your faction sliders move slightly, even though they aren't mentioned as the three most dramatic hits.

Blacksilver

Basically if you want to be loved by some faction in the game your going to have to have enemies, best I've done so far is a couple of good factions with a whole lot of neutrals and 3 or 4 who hate me.
