End Game Broken Promise?

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

End Game Broken Promise?

Well, i finished the SP game and did not get the "new ship" i was promised.
Did i miss something?
Also, i'm back in Manhattan and was wondering what a good stratagy would be to "level up".
Maybe buy the Rheinland Freighter and start trading routes??
I've only got 28,000 credits.

Thanks

What? what about the spiffy cheap new heavy fighter they practically gave you. You only had to pay shipping. also, see post under what hyper gates, hehe

An Anubis for something like 100 credits... and in the storyline they say that you can have all the weapons and such for free -- "whatever you need" but I ended up having to pay for every upgrade I got... perhaps because I had over 100k and could afford it, but I thought that the Order's promise of help at low or no cost was not fulfilled. That's ok, but kind of chintzy. I still kicked Nomad booty. Just had to do a little trading and missions to raise funds while the rushing story progressed... sometimes you've gotta tell Juni you just aren't ready to advance to the next mission until you can afford to upgrade your stuff -- either that or get your ass handed to you in a furball dogfight.

The weapons were more or less free as well...

*Anubis for 1.1 k, whereas a normal price owould probably have been upwards of 100k
*Weapons for 140 credits, which would normally cost 14k or more...
*Heavy Fighter shield which would normally cost 30k, in this case almost for free...

I understand what he means. I also was confused by this. I saw the listing for the reward at the end mission and it said I could now buy an order ship. I thought WOW! the Anubis is great and they were holding something back? Turns out no. They were talking about the anubis. The reason this is confusing is because you can buy the anubis before the last mission on the osiris. Perhaps this is a bug.

id say those weapons that you got were pretty ok

since you only paid about 1% of what they were worth

Post Wed Mar 26, 2003 5:24 am

Would it be possible to buy a HUGE amount of surplus weapons really cheap at the order ship, even though you don't need them, then sell it all for a profit after the mission is over?

Post Wed Mar 26, 2003 5:35 am

Nope, you can sell them for maybe 42 credits after it's over.

faveorite quote "It's not about money, it's about survial of the human race"-lol well, i got to the end and had to sell everything i had and when i went to the nomad home i barely made it cos i did a crappy job of saving money. i think i finished the game with $42.
then i got $20,000 for save the entire human race and system! whoopeeee!!

oh well i got to keep the Annubis!

It is odd that the Anubis was availbe earlier. I too thought this was a little weird. Still, the price is astoundingly good value, give-away cheap really - but it's most annoying that when i cam to trade it in on New Berlin for a HumpBack (thought i'd make some cash now I was free from having to save humanity) and all I got was the purchase price!!! Now, forgive me for thinking this stupid, but it seemed like the Ship Dealer on New BErlin KNEW that i have got the Anubis for peanuts, and so he wasn't going to pay me a bean more than was 'fair'. Not very likely, I think. Especially since the Anubis was one of the finest heavy fighters, and also a rare Order ship - worth a hell of a lot more than $1,100 on the open market, I would have thought!!!!

By the way, is that it? Am I done? Will I never see Juni and King etc. again? They left it kinda open. I kept wondering what I had to do to get myself back on track. I took a Job (for $2000 - hahaha, when I had over a million in the bank!) because that was what I was told to do at the 'end' of the single player, but having done that, nothing has happened. I assume that all there is left to do is tool around the universe looking for more money to spend on weapons I don't need and ships that can't carry any more stuff than I already have?

Did anyone else feel slightly cheated by the fact that the single player storyline is basically mandatory - because you cant' level-up without completeing the missions, and without levelling up, you can't get any good ships. In fact, you can't even find any of the other systems without the single player missions. It isn;t really that 'free' at all. The jobs at sations are all very similar after a while, and once you have more than $75k in the bank, there is much more money to be made from trading. I mean, what are you going to do? Fly 20 waypoints with a shipment of diamonds for a cool $25,000 profit, or risk your neck shooting at a fully-armed corsair hideout for a measly $5000? I wonder...

As a trader, I was also a bit upset to learn that I can never buy one of those huge Freighters that cruise around inviting you to shoot at them by saying "I hope my shipment of Gold gets a good price". I really wanted to be able to haul 100,000 units of cargo, rather than the pathetic loadings of the tiny freighters available to us. I have enough money to fill about ten humpbacks with diamond, but I can only invest a tiny proportion of my wealth because of the crappy cargo space. Oh well.

The game is certainly too "Wing Commander"-ish for my tastes, and not enough like Privateer... but, that said, there *are* a lot of stuff to go and discover after the end of the story line. Yes, you need to get over the anti-climatic feeling...

What annoyed me as well was that you couldn't even leave the story line (which is why I call it Wing Commander-ish). After a few missions off-story-line, everyone tells you that they cannot sign you up for a mission, because you already have one.

Of course, you can still trade (which is the only worthwhile way to make money in this game), but you don't really need much money to finish the campaign.

Bit let-down that they didn't include a "grand finale". The game more or less just cut off. You saved the human race, go get a job. Oh, and to make everything look completely ridiculous, we'll reset the "News items" and the like.

I was all built up for a good finale...When the artifact starts going kafungo in your hold at the end of the last mission, I felt sure that it would show trent flying inside the city, dropping it down a hole, then just barely scraping away as the whole place got sucked into the hypergate.

Fizzle. A beam of light and you return to Manhattan. :/

Reaper: $200,000,000.
Rockets: $100,000
The look on that pilot's face when you launch a full pod of screamers up his tailpipe: priceless
