Dromedary

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Dromedary

I'm really getting annoyed with the whole Dromedary thing. When you get to Mactan base (the only base that sells the darned thing), you can't buy it because you have to be level 10. Once you get to level 10, the hackers hate you and you can't land there because it is a hostile base. What gives? Now I've got a mule in Kyushu, but I could be making MASSIVELY more profit in a mule. No one's shooting at me, since I have no enemies insystem (with the occasional exception of a pair of Corsairs).

Kill cops/bounty hunters, no more hostiles.

Also if you can get a drone, that is a great freighter. 175 holds, very manuverable. Sells at New Tokyo and other japanese places.

I didnt feel like messing with the hackers so i just got a Humpback. 250 cargo but i moves like a barn on wheels. The drone is OK too, i just like a little more cargo space.

If you really want the Dromedary try to find a hack/bribe for the lane hackers or kill cops like the other guy said.

Good luck

If you want everything handed to you why are you playing video games?

Even if the Hackers are your biggest enemy, you can get a Dromedary in less than an hour. Here's how. Go to the Magellan system and become a pirate (kill a bunch of transports). In this system, transports are only guarded by Starfliers (the ship you started the game with). Once you load up with goods, sell them at Freeport 4 and repeat the process. Kill any Navy patrols you encounter in the Magellan system as well. Before you know it, you will be neutral to the hackers. In fact, others like the Corsairs and Rogues will probably be neutral to you as well. The only enemies you will make are the trade companies and the Magellan Navy. Most of your other ratings won't slide below neutral. Now you can buy your one humped camel (Dromedary). Remember, you only need to be neutral in the eyes of the Hackers to buy the ship (It kicks the Humpback's ass).

With all due respect to the person who started this thread, don't diss a part of a game you haven't even attempted. I found this subquest to be one of the most enjoyable in the entire game. It is quests like these that give Freelancer life after the single player game ends. If you don't try these little subquests, you'll end up with a ship that costs almost three times as much and is only half as good. On paper, the Dromedary doesn't look like much (well, 275 cargo), but it is the best transport available in the game.

Becalm thyself... whoa... I'm not dissing it.. I'm just saying that I think they should have offered the ship at more than one base throughout the game. At least... that's what I've seen on the database here on this site.

I love Freelancer. I just want that ship... I made a mistake earlier, apparently... I'm flying a drone now, not a mule. It's OK, and I like how they made the stuff in the Kysari system look Oriental, but I still have the yearning for that great big Camel.

Once I got to level 10, I went back to get the Dromedary (took forever) and once I got there, Mactan base destroyed me when I tried to dock. I figured out that it was because I had some bounty hunters following me when I showed up. So i tried again and went in a big loop away form the jump gate. When I showed up I didn't have any bounty hunters chasing me, and I could dock no problem.

After that I bought the ship, and started playing the missions form the bar there. Its really cool because the jobs are all in the 5k-8k range and with tracktoring in supplys and weapons, you can clear 10k-12k a mission. I got to the point where I could take any mission there and I was pretty much invinceble. The liberty navy was especially easy. Wave after wave of bounty hunters attacking me with no affect. I racked up about 160k then left.

Darn. I just payed some major money to hack the bounty hunters so that I could travel in relative peace. Is that why the hackers hate me so?

Post Thu Mar 27, 2003 1:14 am

Probably... I did the same thing and then they started to hate me with a vengence. So i went back to New York System and (as much as i hated to do it) blew up a couple dozen police and military units until they became neutral. After that the hackers didnt mind me much when i returned to mactan base. I just bought the Dromedary and i find the ship isnt as good as id like it to be. Great cargo space, but i just wish it could support lvl 10 weapons/shields. Oh well, its still a pretty good ship anyway.

It's a great subquest, but for all practical purposes, the Humpback is much more easier to obtain, and even with a small loss of cargo space, it's much more robust, with a lot of turret coverage backwards. I've mastered the art of fighting a running battle, retreating full speed towards the nearest friendly base or gate, whose guns would help give me cover. From a turret standpoint, I open fire at pursuing targets, dropping mines and countermeasures.

I killed several dozen cops before I go to Mactan and bought the Dromedary.

It's a nice ship with the largest cargo space available in FL, unfortunately it doesn't suite with the 'war freighter' term :p. Limited shield, excess energy drain while firing with full blasters. However it's far more agile than the humpback.
Unfortunately I trade mine with a Titan in Malta.

However, I changed back to Dromedary only to put 4 of my nomad cannon and other high lvl stuff in reserve, why ? Cuz the biggest profit you could made in FL is being a trader (Honshu - Carnbridge, with luxury foods and optronics will give you more than 200,000 profit).

I wish I could find a better freighter out there, as agile as the Dromedary with lvl 10 shield, and lvl 8 weapon rating, it should keep me and cargo safe even when ambushed by a squadron of Sabre in a mine field .

Thanks for the input folks. I wound my way around to Mactan base and bought it after I bribed the Hackers into liking me again. Picked up the Dromedary and gold, then went back to Honshu. Unfortunately, I wasn't thinking and was deep into Liberty territory before I noticed. I made something like 40-50 jumps to Honshu and finally dumped the gold. 30 bucks of damage and used up all my shields and nanobots, but I made something on the order of 170,000 for my trouble. I might go back that way to make the big bucks again, but it is like 30 waypoints, even through the tau systems... I'm at around 660,000, so it might be time to find Juni and get back to the storyline.

well, the story messes with your alignment anyway, so I wouldn't worry about it too much

I've not read the thread, but I started exploring early, (level 9-10) so by level 11 I was flying back through kasari space came across Ames research base, and a bloke that would let me bribe the hackers. I consider Mactan to be "home"

You can make a lot of cash easily there, (selling engine parts you get from Denshima)
If you go to dublin, to the Hood, buy gold, take that to Rochester in NY, sell it, buy guns, take them to malta, take water (or drugs) from there to Ruiz. From ther you can either ship alien organisms back to malta, which is an easy run. or you can get artifacts from the liner in Sigma19 and sell them to the Hogosha (I think, could be farmers alliance) in Kusari, then step down to deshima, buy the engine parts, and head back to Mactan again.

Not sure how much you'll make, but with a dromedary, (I finished the game in a dromedary, wicked ship you should be able to make 500-750K per run, you make 250K for the engine parts alone, and about that, if not more for the guns... about 150K for the gold.

It's really easy to make money once you have the space.

If you don't want to be a pirate, ship stuff between London and Cambrigde, that's how I started out, you can make 20K a run easily in a drone (Kasari freighter, not bad, bought one in Kasari before I bought the domedary)

Just be sure, you buy the best stuff once you can, the shield I have is (still flying a domedary at the mo) is class 6, 3600+ the Advanced thuster, and some decent weapons. I have one slow (4.00) class 6 turret up top, 1 class five missle launcher up front (missiles are $375 a pop) two level 6 guns up fromt, (advanced something, I forget what, about 180 damage, 4.00 repeat) the rest of the turrets are class 5, 8.33 repeat, (usefull for dogfighting) I also got an advanced countermeasures dispenser, usefull once you start to hit trouble around level 16, not much use before.

I've bought very few of my weapons, except the class 6 "orbital bombardment cannons" (360+ damamage, 2.00 repeat that I picked up during a whisstle stop tour of Rhienland at level 16 during the single player game. Most of it is looted

I highly recommend being a criminal, once you get used to the jump holes, it's far easier to get about and more fun popping a cap in the Police/Navy's ass. I also make it a habit to track down and kill those dumb enough to ask me for my cargo, even if they run when they realise what I'm flying something harder than thier ship. There's just no excuse for that kind of stupidity...

Hmmm,

Having read the thread...

If you're dissing the dromedary you simply don't know how to fly it properly... I've taken out outcasts, (real ones, through the jump hole near malta) in this thing at level 11, as well as titans, 3 of them at once, (took bloody ages to get through the hull...) in sigma 17 once I'd made level 16. It's a fighting tank. I even won the race in it... It is in my opinion the best ship in the game, others may be harder, and have better weapons, but it's hard! It's also a beautufull looking ship compared to the drone and that dumptruck called the humpback, I've done level 20 missions in this thing fought of level 17 Bounty Hunters in the badlands, wiped out entire wings of Navy Dragons having wandered to close to sensitive regions had hadn't fully explored...

I racked up over 2Mn with it before going to Dublin to carry on with the story...

I'll be very sad to see it go, but having lugged this class 10 weaponry with me everywhere since level 10 I really want to explore the bits of the map, I had to fight rearguard actions through on my first visits.

The dromedary is a thing of beauty, that you flyboys in fighters will never trully understand
