What "type" of weapons are class 10 guns?

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

What "type" of weapons are class 10 guns?

Anyone know from the game files what type of guns are the class 10 weapons? All the ones you find on wrecks say they're Classified and the Nomad weapons just say they're a conversion of nomad technology but it doesn't state the type of projectiles they use such as photon, tachyon, plasma, etc. etc.

These are important to me because I have been doing a lot of playing around with equipment and it would be good to know if certain shields would be better at countering these weapons. If anyone knows could you please respond?

If you decode the weapons .ini file and look at the munitions entries, many of them have a "weapon_type" value that indicates photon, tachyon, neutron, etc. But the munitions for the special class-10 guns don't have those values, so I'm guessing they have no particular (dis)advantage with certain kinds of shields.

This is funny: FL uses the same model for all class-10 guns (they all look the same mounted on a ship), and the name of the model is "proton cooker".

Oh that's just great. I've been trying my best to balance the heavy ships vs very heavy ones but it seems the v. heavy ships have no disadvantages. It is going to get boring fast seeing everyone fly titans, sabres and eagles equipped with nomad weapons *sigh*

The only "advantage" I see the smaller ships having is photon cannons that will kill those positron class 10 shields fast but with their lack of protection its gonna be pretty tough to take very heavy ships down. Heck the heavy fighters aren't even more maneuvrable than very heavy fighters! I've only tested the Valkyre but that turns slower than an Eagle for crying out loud =(

lol, good luck trying to outfly a c10 ship with nomad weapons

hehe, i can get away from most c10 nomad ships, you can't hurt something you can't hit, and most players can't aim too well. You can tell when you fire the weapon what type it is, for example Cerberus is a particle cannon, best at short range, and Diamondback is a tachyon cannon with a long range.

Yes actually, after some further testing the balance is starting to fit in. I've noticed the heavy fighters like the Valkyre for example is a smaller target compared to the huge wingspan of eagles, titans and sabres. Also factoring in the weak spots of these 3 ships such as each wing holding 2 guns on the eagle and titan and the thrusters being on a rear wing which can be easily taken out crippling the ship's combat ability greatly, I think that skilled pilots in smaller ships armed with the proper equipment could easily take down class 10 ships.

Everybody thinks their titan/sabre/eagle and their nomad weapons rule but they couldn't be further away from the truth. Anyway, that's all the info I'll leave you with since the only response I'll probably get is flames.

Even if you choose not to believe what the .ini files are saying about them not having a specific projectile type, ALL class-10 guns have the same range: 699m -- and that is easily seen by just looking at their stats on the screen.

cappo, the c10 weapons, as stated before, have no projectile type. What you are talkng about is just the particle effects. What "they" are talking about, is the reaction to shield types, which for all purposes on c10 weapons has no bearing, as they have no specific type value. When a weapon has a type value, it's sheild damage is reduced vs. certain types of shields. As an example, by changing one value, I can make a tachyon weapon behave like a laser weapon vs. Positron shields. It would still look, sound, and impact like a tachyon.. but it's shield damage vs. Positron shields would behave like a laser weapon.

I understand you're trying to fill in an info gap by comparing the projectiles to others to determine their type, but missing info isn't the case, the absence of the value makes them equally effective vs. all ship types.
