HELP!!! I can''t get through the race mission!!!!

Well, i too found this mission difficult.
I only used cruise engines about 1/2 way through, then cut them out. He passed me but makes a mistake..bumped them back on after that.

Always tried to line up the next gate and the one after. jockying for position i guess.

After he makes a mistake and you pass him late in the race, hit your cruise as he will shoot at you..

Just go balls to the wall and at the third last ring start dropping counter measures every half second cus the defence platforms will chew you up otherwise. i found it easier to corner if you headed towards the next ring just before you go through the current one and strafe through the current one while looking at the next one.
I actually went back and did this mission afew extra times just for the hell of it.

try doing it without cruise or thrusters, i did it that way and got it on the second try, i only didn't get it on the first try because i missed the last gate (don't ask me how). he won't go into cruise if you don't
