Lack of sex .. *Spoiler*

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Lack of sex .. *Spoiler*

I actually found it good that Trent and Juni maintained a "professional" relationship during the whole SP campaign, I was afraid it would turn into some soft romantic soapopera in the end, it didnt and I appreciated that. Any lack of sex really didnt concern me but it did raise a few questions in my mind.

The only game I actually remember where two folks supposedly had sex was in Baldurs Gate 2 ...the hero and a dark elf, this was however a player choice I believe. Ofcourse no scenes were actually shown, it was just a fact.

Sex is probably the most practised human behaviour next to other physical activities like eating, drinking etc. Yet its probably the least used ingridient in today´s modern gaming industry, probably because the industry adresses itself to teenagers and thus it remains carefull regarding certain issues like sex. Its a wide audience and you have to be carefull not to offend anyone.

The above however again raises another question in the back of my mind. What if the game producers actually chose to let Juni and Trent have sex? just as a fact, no actual pictures shown, just a journal entry or something in that style. This is something I rarely see...does it bother me? not really, but it still raises the question. I knew what sex was all about when I started playing games... and actually never saw the issue hidden where I live. Most video stores have the juicy pictures on the top shelfs and with a little neckbending I usually got my curiosity satisfied as a kid. Which teenager doesnt know what sex is about? I think none.

Maybe I just havnt played the games where the fact that two people had sex is stated in writing. Please enlighten me, since I am curious in regard to this issue.

I know this isnt much of a Freelancer only issue, but I hope you folks dont mind me bringing this subject up here.

I was kind of surprised that Trent and Juni didn't fall in love, but then Juni didn't either die, or turn traitor

Sex, or at least sex appeal, is used a lot in games... because as you mentioned, they're largely trying to appeal to teenage boys

From the "intelligence officer" in Unreal II who looks like a stripper, to the prostitutes in Grand Theft Auto. There's a lot there.

Yeah i noticed that too

But that's one of the things i like about this game. It didn't turn out like some crappy love ending, but rather something different.

Golgo 13 had sex in the old 8-bit Nintendo game near the end of it!

All of the Leisure suit larry's involved having sex
Police Quest 2 had sonny and marie have sex
I don't care what anyone says, I think Mr. and Mrs. Pac-Man had sex too!

Anyway... Yea, I was happy that it didn't turn into a big love story. Though I think they had sex anyway... It was just cheap meaningless sex.

I wouldn't have minded, after Juni informed Trent she had asked the barman about him at the end, Trent smiling at her and the two of them sitting down for drinks at a table to themselves, camera zooms out, fade to black . . .

It's not romantic, but it leaves you with the impression that they could have been romantic, or may have just been friends - and really leaves that up for the player to decide for themselves. Since deciding what route to go is the point of the entire game, this seems fitting and it isn't cheesy.

A few years ago there was an Adventure type kick boxing shooter called Omicron or as Computer Gaming mag called it Omicrud. It wasn't a very good game but it did have a scene where he made out with his woman as he laid her down on the bed starts humping then it fades to black. After a few seconds they wake up in the bed together and its the next morning.

It is, afterall, free lancer... Trent can swing anyway he wants... and I'm not just talking about the factions. LOL

The only game (computer games that is) I've ever played that has explicit sexual content is the Sims... Even though they prefer the term "play in bed"... And it's the number one best selling game in history. Well what do you know, sex sells!

I would think counterstrike or age of empires would be number one, since they are ancient games which a lot of people still play. Never gave the sims a try though and havnt actually seen any sales statistics...but if you say so, I believe ya.

The Sims is the best-selling game of all time, having just recently (read: 4-6 months ago) shoved Myst out of the #1 slot.

Yup, I remember that bit, Seadregs!

Maybe I'm reading into it a bit more than I should, but I always felt there was this implication that Solid Snake and Meryl 'did it' in the bathroom scene. Meryl says "So, there's something you like about me, huh?" and then at some point Snake says something like, "When you're on the battlefield, you never think about what happens next." At which point it fades to black, and I don't see any reason why it does this except to insinuate that they had sex. There's an 'easter egg', such that if you follow Meryl into the bathroom quickly enough, you'll see her in her underwear, and then it becomes plausible that Kojima used the fade to black to indicate the lapse of time that occurred as Meryl put on some clothes. But this is still just an easter egg, and doesn't explain why Kojima would have directed the scene around that, and Kojima also has other instances of people changing without using fade to black.

I liked the way DA approached the relationship between Juni and Trent, and it definitely does seem to be keeping with the theme of freelancing.

All the same, however, I wouldn't mind seeing a relationship fleshed out more in a game of this type. In envisioning the ways I'd try to make a modern Wing Commander, I figured in the possibility of a genuine romance. Not that there'd be scenes displaying sex, however.

I’m assuming the teen rating for a game must have strict rules on sexual material? Well at least in North American. Is it as strict in Europe?

The original privateer had the ability to trade slaves. This isn’t in Freelancer either. First the merchant lost his cargo, then his ship now I sell him as a slave for more profit!

I still find it amazing that blowing another person away in a cargo ship including the death scream is better for teenagers then going to Freeport 5 and hiring a prostitute to have sex with.

I’m 23 now and find I want my games more and more realistic. Showing the absolute worse of human behavior as an option.

That is exactly my personal oppinion. Its a well known fact that people seek sexual services and pay for them, in many countries this is allowed as long as the prostitutes pay their taxes, at least in some parts of western Europe, dont know about the USA.

I live in Scandinavia where sex is a thing you discuss like everything else, I believe the USA is exactly the same, it just depends on where you come from and how you have been raised ... some people are more open to certain subjects than others.

But what still astonishes me is that the simulation of killing a person is still viewed as totally normal in modern games, while a simulation of the reproduction act violates certain peoples moral values. We are afterall in the 21st century and modern man still behaves as though he lived in the middleage in regard to certain aspects of life.

If I was an alien "humans" would probably be the last intelligent beings I would ever approach. This is not a statement based only on the discussed issue, many other aspects of human behaviour would certainly make me keep my alien nose to myself.

Would it even be possible for Mr. and Mrs. Pacman to have sex? I mean, look at 'em. Are we to believe Mr. Pacman is carrying, shall we say, a "concealed weapon"? Maybe the ghost are all the girls he's raped and killed over the years.

Hahahahahaha!

The underlying tones in all these games are enough to drive you mad!

Hahahahahahaha!
