It''s always cool when the admins power trip

I laugh at all the thread locking I see on this forum. People go to creatively discuss some of the flaws and the admins nazi it up with the lock and delete buttons. I know this thread will be deleted but and admin will have to read it first to do that, so it's well worth my time.

It's funny tho, b/c all you'll do is drive more people away and your forums will be dead anyways.

If you would like to lighten up feel free to -- or give me the pitch about this being a PRIVATE forum. That's all well and good, but trust me, I know a lot better than you do at how to run them. How do I know? Trust me, I'm a very high level forum whore.

Ok, no offense, but are you just posting to get this locked? maybe you ought to email the webmaster or soemthing. i probably don't know much about this, but this seems like a waste of time on your part. again, no offense. just a suggestion so your complaint (which may well have a good basis) is heard.

Why aren't you responding to my emails? Is your address correct?

Post Fri Mar 07, 2003 1:23 am

no that address works.

I will use email then ;o

Yea, I heard there was way too much thread locking here too, and that's a shame. Criticism is a good thing.

BTW, I saw mods edit people's post to make comments? What's up with that? I see from this thread that mods are perfectly capable of writing ordinary replies?

most of us don't keep our e-mail client open 24/7 we got more imidiate forms of communication.

Well, if the administration of this site is at all serious about maintaining a diverse fan community, they are going to have to get used to people expressing an equally diverse set of ideas, without fear of unreasonable censorship, or in some cases, open public mockery.

My browser is my mail app. Oh wait, I could check the spam folder I suppose.

Sigh. It's not like we click a thread the instant we see that its negative. Actually, most of the "negative threads" have spanned multiple pages. A thread is closed when it gets locked or is going in circles. Nothing more, nothing less. The open to locked threads ratio has actually pretty much shrunk, compared to before we started getting more traffic. In fact, considerably less threads have been closed in the last three months than there used to be. Sir, it takes more than a forum whore to know how to run one. Good day

Post Fri Mar 07, 2003 2:19 am

I'm sure the traffic here has gone up since the game came out, that would explain your ratio.

And why would you care if a thread went in circles? If you're not intersted in it anymore just stop reading it -- you don't have to ruin it for everyone else.

Also, check out this thread for one of the major reasons I made this post: http://www.lancersreactor.com/t/forum/t ... er&M=False

The admins totally get owned but lock it and declare victory.

As for my forum whoring expirence, trust me, I know what makes a good forum.
The only reason lancresreactor is popular is b/c it's game specific and it's what people are playing right now (were playing). I go to gamefaqs forums sometimes too b/c I want a bit of focus, but as far as forums go they could go down tomorrow and I wouldn't think twice. No one would care if these forums were taken down too.

oh, aslo I will stop using the word nazi b/c it is so offensive and disrespectful. As you can see I am actually I very considerate person.

"Sigh. It's not like we click a thread the instant we see that its negative. Actually, most of the "negative threads" have spanned multiple pages."

I don't mind pointless threads that have been closed that I haven't seen. It's the good threads that have been closed that I have seen that concern me.

"The open to locked threads ratio has actually pretty much shrunk, compared to before we started getting more traffic."

In that case, the ratio was horrid before and better now. That doesn't mean it's good.

Well, I moderated forums for Sierra for three years, so I think I have some experience in the matter. Perhaps that speaks to my arrogance, but if is, it is certainly not one tenth the arrogance expressed by the current administration at this site.

in defense of the mods here, perhaps they were overwhelmed with the increase of posts. come on guys, don't start more fights. i'm sure i'm not the only one who wouldn't want to see this site get nasty.

Post Fri Mar 07, 2003 3:37 am

It's not about "fights", it's the problem that some topics are completely off-limits even though they are completely valid. I'm fairly sure that most if not all of the people who asked what to do after they reach level 38 were in fact NOT looking for a "fight", but honestly wanted to know. some of these people still got a "fight", and that's just wrong.

Sure it can be explained, but nobody should get hanged because they say they don't like it that way.

In addition, the guidance provided in the FAQ and in the Frelancer Discussion post is minimal at best. I don't categorize my thread as being redundant or circular. I mean, it had not even had a chance to get out of the gate far enough to get to the point of considering the option of becoming circular.

And the fact that I was not sent an email explaining why it was locked, or that no moderator explained why it was locked, speaks to the unprofessional level of this site's administration. I don't think that's being nasty - it's a truthful assessment, and it is feedback that should be taken at face value without emotion. However, the "Waah, you hurt my feelings so I'm not going to help you" email I just received from Stinger proves otherwise.
