I'm a newbie here too, and, theoretically, making a separate place for the vets could be a good idea, but:
a) who's gonna help the newbies when they get into trouble (e.g. I'm staying away from FL forum for now, since I don't have the game yet, but with time I will, and I will be looking forward to some friendly support from the seniors of this site).
b) suppose you create a haven for the vets - how are you gonna protect yourselves from the n00bs who come there - ban them? Imagine the reaction (forum vets are chauvinists!, etc. )?
P.S. I tried to post it before, but my PC crashed, and later it said that the message has been already posted, though I couldn't see it. If you see my messages become doubled, feel free to delete'em.

Assuming it ever came into being it would operate something like this:
Users who joined before the 01/01/2003 automatically have access as a private chill out zoon against aggressive newbies (not sayin you are ZLO) and say after 3 months a newbie gains access to it as well as they have then became a regular. If you get me? Access would be gained through using your user log & password.
Fear not tho, us Vets would still roam around the site helping the needy

I'm interested in the definition of "newbie" here.
I am newly registered to the site, but I've been a reader/lurker for years. (I may have been registered back in the Starlancer days - but I no longer have those details)
In terms of the genre, I played Elite on the BBC-B back in 82 or so. I played Wing Commanders 1, 2, 3, 4 and Prophecy, including all the add-on packs. I played Privateer 1 & 2 and Starlancer.
All of those Wing Commander games had something revolutionary about them, so I expected great things from Freelancer. In my opinion it is not what has promised/hyped for the last four years (not even close). Yet in stating that, I am classed as a newbie and my discussions are locked. That is at best un-helpful, at worst offensive.
So how do you define a "newbie"?

If I get a dime everytime I hear about this.... Now seriously, I don't see the necessity for such an elitist hangout. What will the nature of this "veteran forum" be? Do we just post there and pat each other in the back and say "Man we've been here for a long time" and stuff? I vote for mingling and getting dirty. Even a veteran will lose his edge after hanging around in the safe haven for too long.
