TLR and its policiy regarding E-Mail adresses

I dont like the way how private email adresses from forum users are treated:
In the modern internet where spam and junk mails are a real big issue, LancersReactor still does publish the email adress of every user in his profile.
And obviously you cannot hide your email adress (am I wrong? hopefully...) so the thing Im heading for is the opportunity to hide the personal email adress.

get and internet email and use that for your email. then check it once and a while.

i've never had any problems with spam though

You can do this for the addy, to protect from auto finders. [email protected]

Just add the nospam and nothing will get to you unless someone removes the nospam. Addys here are required so moderators can contact you if there are problems with posts.

tbh, they don't need to check profiles, it's all there - linked on any page with a post in...

The forum software is old , old i tells ya!

I understand that.
But this is no reason for publishing your email in every post you write...
(thx Chips, didnt notice that)

w0dk4, if your worried about others getting a primary addy, just create one on Gmailjust for forum posting, and check on occation when needed.

I think most moderators would have the nouse to remove all capital blocks of rubbish from your email addresses

Anything, like [email protected] would be recognisable as well. It's not ideal, but unless the forum software gets updated (not likely tbh) then it's about the best that can be done.

This software could always be modified to automatically add something to the email address.

the problem is LR was created 5 years ago... bargib handled the administration of the page and the code itself

as you may have noticed - bargib is not here anymore and there was no major update on LR for ages

you cant expect that the LR pages get such features like hiding emails if nobody is there to integrate that code
ive already been talking with bp a few weeks ago how to change LRs code a little bit... fix some bugs and improve the page

i offered my help and as soon bp is back ill talk with him again and see what can be done

until then i suggest that if you dont want your email being published here... just create a free email account just for LR... check it from time to time... and dont get bothered by the spam ^^
(just a suggestion)

There are newer versions of this forum software about, but Bargib was never happy with it as being secure/bug free or something. The last I discussed it was about 2 years ago, and I am sure the software is better by now - but after a while you just leave it to be whatever it will be.

I have already done some code modifications to the site so I know what I'm talking about. Right now I don't have the time but in a month I will be able to take a look at it.. assuming I can find my login information for the server What I am thinking of is a minor edit so that the page simply adds something like '_REMOVE_ME' to the email address automatically. Of course, everyone's email address has already been harvested from this site so it's almost not worth it.

As it stands what we really need is someone with the skills, dedication, and time to import the site's database into new software. Until then nothing will really change around here.

i dont mind getting emails from people on lancers. i do mind getting emails from the austrailian lottery or my chase bank account is in trouble and i dont have a chase account. or doctor ummaggy from uganda has a million dollars that once belonged to a long lost relitive of mine but i dont know any relitive who has ever been to uganda.

dude if your having probs with spam, get yourself a spam email adress go to hotmail spend 5 mins making the account and then cheack it every once and a while.(if you haent gessed you use this for signing up to areas where you might get a spam).

Don't look now but I think this problem has been solved. You may now kiss my feet

Now if BP wants I can remove the email link entirely from threads and require people to look at someones profile to get their email address (which a harvest bot cannot access).

That sounds really good Louva, big improvement - kudos.

I'd say it should be done
