Mods'' dual Identities

Lately I've noticed that some of the mods, namely Finalday and Chips (perhaps others I'm also not aware of) have created additional forum names used by themselves that aren't moderators (ie. Finalday is also Bear, etc.). Not that this is a bad thing, but I'm curious as to why this is being done. It's certainly within your right, but its confusing to see the replies from the same person from two different users in the same thread! Is this just a way of having the mods be able to visit the forums without their official moderator hats on and be just "one of the guys" (or girls)?

Because posting as Mike I can make more risque comments than if I posted as Chips

Okay - I can post my personal thoughts or take on something - without having to be neutral or nice, its that simple (for me). Recently I have used it more, simply because I intend to participate as Mike, and moderate as Chips. In other words, I will eventually only use Chips for TLR posts (ie rules, editing, warnings, pointing out help, answering questions directed at us/or mods - simply because Chips has a rep as modding, Mike doesn't). Switching from one to another in a thread is a very easy way for people to know whom Mike is, thats all.

Makes sense enough. This seems a worthy solution to the problems of mod-involvement in some of the past flame wars during the exodus.

I can see where this is going... we'll soon have "Happy Face Garlic Chips", "Grumpy McGarlic", "Chip the Dip", "Chipowski", "GarlicGuy", etc., for the various things Chips wants to spam. He can be a whole chorus

I should start doing that... I can be "Yuck", and "Ow!" and "Drat".

Yes, I'm joking.
