"Views" Section

Apart from the "Last Post" section, I was thinking that it might be useful to have a "Views" column, so that people can see how many people read the assorted threads. The Mods would find this especially useful because if they post an important announcement, they will be able to easily determine how many people have been informed.

Also, why not have one of those "People logged in now" lines at the top? You know, the one that tells you how's browsing the forum when you are.

Yeah, I agree. Also, on a similar subject, how about a section that tells you who last posted on each thread? I find it a guessing game to figure out which threads have new posts -- I don't know about you folks, but they all say they have new posts in. Even when they don't :S

@Bounty, look at the time and date on the "Last Post" on the forums page, it tells how old it is since last post.If the day is 1 older, then no one has posted in it for a day

BHJ - I mentioned that in my "Last Post" topic a few weeks ago and, although the feedback was positive, it has not been instituted.

Final - That is how you do it, but wouldn't it be more efficient to have a "Last Post By" column?

I would assume that it takes more than just a minute or two to implement the ideas. I get the kind of feeling that the forums here aren't like your typical forums - as it doesn't seem to match anything along the lines of a normal forum - so they might actually have to do some scripting and stuff rather than click a check box to activate the feature.................

@Esq, yea, it would have advantages as to know whos around too. Like If some one has a question about Comps, they would know if you or Taw were around and wanted to *talk*.

@Chips, I have only seen a couple of other forums, but from what I have seen, I like this one and it people a whole lot better. No or little flames, no cursing/obsenitys. Friendlyer conversation And a lot of help offered too.

Now that I think about it Chips, you are probably right. All of the forums that I have seen are PHP, which is comparatively easy to script. ASP on the other hand, is a bit trickier from all accounts. I wonder why Barbig chose ASP?

Well, for one thing...it works very well with databases.

Heh, I know. But I don't remember the exact time I posted everything -- so if someone posts within five minutes of me or something, I probably wouldn't notice. And the fact that the motherboard battery on this computer is flat doesn't help matters, lol -- I dunno what time it is half the time anyway.

plus, being as the server clock is *checks* Pacific Standard Time, and I'm GMT, it's kinda hard to figure things out...

Stinger - That is true, however you can use PHP and MySQL together quite effectively from all reports. Still, there's nothing wrong with ASP, I was just curious.

We had a topic about that in the OT forum as well, Cardy!
