TLR web site

I have been using the TLR website for only a couple of weeks, I wish to offer both my thanks and congratulations to all those involved in the maintenance of it, as it is a really good site.

However, could I offer a few suggestions to make it a great site:
(I have searched the forums and can't see a match for the following).

(1) Would it be possible to include a spellchecker on the post topic page?
(2) Reverse the colour scheme of the whole site to a white-ish background with
black or dark blue text? The existing scheme looks trendy but is difficult to read, especially in the small hours.
(3) Increase the page width of forum messages?
(4) Increase the page width of the download pages?
(5) Increase the information carried on the Personal Profile, to include other things like: time zone (GMT+1 or 2 or 4 or 5), town & city.
(6) Increase the font size of the Search Forum page.
(7) Change the Home or Front page to only show the index and not include comments, as this is what new gamers see on entering the site. I suggest this is where simple instructions on how to use the site are posted in plain english, without having to click to a page to read it.
(8) Change the radio button 'Post New Topic' to 'Send'.
(9) On the downloads page, number the different downloads, from 1 being the oldest to 999 being the newest using some sort of automatic number system. This modification would allow us, the users, easier access for when we have to re-enter the site time and time again, only having to remember the mod number, not how far down the page and the title, which changes on a daily basis.
(10) Have a box showing how many gamers/users on the site, to allow users to judge when the best time to download mods etc.

These few suggestions are offered in the hope of easier reading and greater enjoyment of an already good website.

Kind Regards,
Corporal.

(If I get flamed for this, oh well. See www.w3.org/)

Good ideas - I'm a bit busy looking for a new job ATM, so this has to wait, but I'll try to add as much as I can once I get over the current Real Life obligations!

Actually, you have some good ideas there.
Are they all practical? I donno....then again, who does unless you ask *S*

I don't know about the spell checker though...people like me would likely overload the thing *L*

I wish you well.

lets see

1) spell check
good but while simple search overload the server its not a necessary thing. If you consern about your spelling use the standart sites

2) Theme
I like the colors

3) Increase the page width of forum messages
Just fine.

4) Increase the page width of the download pages
for what?

5) Personal Profile, to include other things like: time zone (GMT+1 or 2 or 4 or 5), town & city
pointless, every information you need to know about the user is there. Most other forums have extensive information about the client, those forums made as general solution. The extra information wont do any help here.

6) search font size
imho - there is no proble there.

7) Change the Home
huh?

8) 'Post New Topic' to 'Send'
no.

9) Download numbers
Good idea. easy to find.

10) Users online
Good idea. As for me i use mainly(and only) the forums.

Just to clarify some points;

Item 4 - the download pages appear to be only about 2-3 inches wide, when
an author posts information, this information often goes onto several pages,
with only a couple of inches of text in a very long column.

I just thought, is it that the page width is o.k., its just that the author's
only type in a column?

Item 5 - on the forum posts it shows CET, I take it this is Central European Time, however many forum users come from England & across the U.S.A.,
my suggestion was to use either GMT (letting the server work out the
value of plus or minus time from GMT) or let users post their local time
manually in their profile.

Item 7 - The Home page, or front page of TLR. When newbees search for help,
the search engines come to the front page of this site, it makes sense to me
that you should prominently display the index centrally, not just on the side
of the screen page. The search site being made large and central.
The instructions in plain text of etiquete displayed on this page,
without any links.
Also remove the various vague pictures and cutscenes, whih detract from
the first image of the site.
